Were you "cool" in high school?

Every now again I think back on my time in high school. Although I never thought of myself as cool, looking back I was popular without ever realizing it. Funny how that works. I was in the International Baccalaureate program so a good deal of my classmates were incredibly smart, far moreso than I.

I was mainly into bodybuilding, boxing, wrestling, lots of computer gaming and chess... typical things most of us I'm sure enjoyed. I was much bigger and stronger than my peers and the goalkeeper for our high school soccer team. I was an unabashed, maniacal drunk and got into tons of trouble (mild stuff, thankfully) on the weekends.

So while I was technically cool, it matters not because I never capitalized on it - not to mention, being cool in high school is essentially meme material as we all know how utterly unimportant that stuff really is in the long run.

Were you cool and popular? I realize this thread has probably been made 100 times but it's always nice to get the temperature of today's posters. Get it? Cool? Temperature? Ok I'll stop.

In a way. I’ve always walked my own path and was in shape enough not to get bullied. Some people thought that was cool, others thought I was weird.

Yes I was on the basketball team and was boxing in smoker events throughout HS. 6’3 athletic and in great shape. Also I am and was handsome so there’s that.

I couldn't think of how to describe my experience. I think I will just use yours since it's pretty close.

I could record songs onto my tape deck from the radio better than my peers. This made me cool. Seriously though, i was cool and popular in primary school. In high school i was a late bloomer so my cool disappeared as the other kids reached puberty before me. Now though they are old and wizened and i retain my youth better than them.

Used to jam the dweebs with pokemon cards in trash cans bro. All while listening to nickelback or limp bizkit.

I really shouldn't have included the "much" there. I was stronger than almost all my peers but there were obviously football players like Ernie Sims who I competed with in the weight room. That actually provides far more context than it should for anyone who followed his football career. Very nice dude. I'm only 5'10" but I was benching around 350 in 10th grade and deadlifting 405 for a few reps. By the time I was a senior I was a bloated mess of a human pumped to the gills with growth hormone and dianabol. So that adds a little nuance to my experience.

I really should've said "popular" and not "cool"... but I guess what I mean is, were you guys part of the in-crowd or not so much. I certainly don't think any less of someone for being an outcast of the popular, I was an outcast in my own way. High school is such a confusing time.

That's tremendously sad that you would have been bullied if you weren't in shape :(
