This fight tonight made me remember the Souza vs Romero back then...

Tonight Overeem was badly hurt and I was yelling at the tv for Werdum to just keep striking to knock him out.... just keep throwing punches and knees, elbows and the ref would´ve stopped the fight. Instead, Werdum decides to go for a takedown with very little time left in the round and starts to punch Overeem "like a little girl" (Frank Mir´s words on Lesnar's gnp in their 1st fight).... way to go, Werdum!

Souza too....... he had Romero hurt in the end of the 3rd round (not as hurt as Reem was tonight but still hurt) and decides to get a takedown with only 1 minute left in the round??? WTF??

Although Souza should´ve won that fight, I still consider it a very bad decision both fighters made.

Thoughts?

Fabricio Saint Pierre. Pisses me off too, but I think Yoel was just gassed against Jacare

I agree. Even if ref didn't stop it or Overeem didn't go out cold, it would have maybe made a case for a 10-8 round, which (depending if you scored rd1 for Werdum or Overeem, or a 10-10) would have been a win or at least a draw.

I can't believe he went for the td ,horrible fight iq.

Werdum and Jacare are 2 of the best submission guys in the UFC. Overeem is also probably the most accomplished striker and is always dangerous, so taking the fight where he's most comfortable makes sense. He could have kept striking, but he also could have gotten knocked out.

When it happened I was thinking to myself, I would be mad if anyone else went for the td but Werdum has such a high level ground game he had plenty of time to work on top of a hurt Reem. He ran out of gas, he was tired af after the fight. Werdum was comfortable riding it out thinking he had done enough. Ended up being the wrong decision, but i still think the td is ok IF he would have worked for the finish on the ground. He had time.

Werdum's problem was he appeared to think he had one of the earlier rounds, anf coasted on top. He made no real attempt to posture up, pass guard, or do anything to pressure a hurt Overeem with plenty of time left on the clock.

He probably could have kept it standing longer and done more damage, but in reality, all he had to do was posture up, or pass. Reem isn't some ground wizard, and he was hurt.

Wedeum's fight IQ is alright (except in the Stipe fight). He was just unlucky that the judges was playing their Iphones when he fought.
