The first season of Oz was solid, but it went downhill QUICKLY. It's low poit was when Irish dude arranged for the warden's daughter to be raped on the outside and the, once they realized how bad that storyline was, they never mentioned it again.

The show was great for it's time, as there was nothing else quite like it, in terms of how raw and brutal it was. Watching it now though, you realize just how many times it jumped the shark. It's still pretty good for the most part though, except for final season, which is just atrocious.

It's apparently a prequel of sorts. I've never seen the original, but it has a connection, and shows how some of the people in the original series came to be what they were in that show.

You obviously didn’t pay much attention to the show, because:

1. The warden’s daughter was raped;
2. It was never organized or plotted or threatened by anyone;
3. The Irish guy never had anything to do with it; and
4. They did resolve that story line and never abandoned it. The warden was taking his anger out on one prisoner in particular Over the incident for an entire season, till that prisoner ended up murdering the actual perpetrator and told the warden about it.

The show did go downhill hard, but not until season 5.

You're definitely wrong about 2 and 3. I don't remember it ever being resolved, unless there were seasons I didn't see.

No, I’m definitely not. I’ve had the entire series on DVD for 15 years, I’ve watched it multiple times.

My guess is you’re confusing the prison doctor and the warden’s daughter, both of whom got raped on the outside. The Irish guy was involved in the doctor’s rape (sort of) and her rape was foreshadowed ahead of time. At the time the warden’s daughter’s rape was a completely random event. The warden’s daughter’s rape plot line was resolved at the end of season 3, the doctor’s rape was resolved mid season 4.

Season 4 was the best season. Season 5 and 6 sucked because of terrible writing, but season 1 had the worst acting. Most of the series regulars hadn’t grown into their roles yet.
