What are the benefits of a weight vest. Example, using it while doing chin ups, push ups, sit ups. What are the benefits of more reps with less weight or less reps with more weights with these types of exercises? Thanks

Keep in mind i'm training for muay thai.

It basically increases the weight you are using. It's like adding more plates to the bar when doing the bench press, except you're using this for a different exercise.

I believe you would want to do high reps with sit ups, chin ups, and push ups for thai boxing since muscular endurance is much more important than strength in striking.

I would also say that you would want to do these workouts explosively if using a weighted vest to benefit your striking as well.

I believe woogie has found himself in a forum discussing a subject he seems to know little about.

I don't know much about weight training myself. So i'll simplify my question.

I'm training for muay thai. Should i use a weight vest while doing chin ups, pushups, situps and other exercises? yes or no?

A reason would also be appreciated.

thanks

Simply put, if you want to improve your max strength, do exercises with more resistance.

If you want to improve your strength endurance, do more reps of easier exercises.

Which do you feel you need more of?

As Urban points out in the thread Bacon referenced, there are plenty of ways to increase the resistance of the exercises you mentioned without using a weighted vest.

As is also pointed out in the same thread, using a weighted vest for running or plyometric exercises can be harmful to the joints.

I didn't buy one. I spent the money on weights and beer.
