Weidman vs Belfort

dangerous for weidman if he doesnt fight anderson first

itll just be another contender off the immediate list

Belfort easily.

Weidmans best win (Maia) doesn't even figt in the weightclass anymore lol.

weidman is the absolute worst match up style-wise for belfort - every weakness belfort possess are the exact things at which weidman excels

Whats the deal with Weidman? Does he actually offer Silva anything that he hasnt already faced? Im asking this because I personally have not watched any Weidman fights and every time I come on Sherdog I see a ridiculous amount of Weidman hype. Is he actually a decent threat or is he just the next hyped up opponent to beat Silva?

That shouldn't matter. Pretty stupid reasoning. Weidman is a tough fight for anyone and will be the champion eventually, whether he gets it from Anderson or after Anderson.

you're joking right - 1st of all, his best win is munoz - and maia isn't a mw anymore because weidman gave him his walking papers on 10 days notice -

his uncle died tragically in his house - weidman spent a day cleaning his blood off his stairwell and then another few days dealing with the wake etc, he then cut 32 lbs in about 2 days - that was his camp - he then proceeded to beat the #7 mw in the world

every time he's had a full camp he's finished his opponent and made it look easy - weidman is a nightmare for belfort - a strong wrestler with nasty gnp and excellent cardio (please don't mention the maia fight - gassing under those circumstances is a foregone conclusion - it hasn't happened before or since) - belfort would be on his back or up against the cage trying to fend off td's - belfort's history with such fighters is awful - easy win for weidman

This guy isn't even in the discussion. How about he wins against a top 10 opponent first?

you mean a top 10 opponent like ...weidman? - you have to fight them in order to beat them - i'd like to see lombard v weidman or better yet lombard v belfort as mentioned in another thread - that fight has fireworks written all over it

Weidman should get next crack at the belt. If they did fight- Weidman all day long.

And again, give the guy someone fringe top 10 or straight top 10. The way I see it, Weidman is at least top 5, and Lombard has done nothing to deserve that fight yet. Winning against Palhares doesn't equal a title eliminator all of the sudden. (Which if Weidman fights in, absolutely should be).

Edit: I'm not against Lombard vs. Belfort, though. Seeing as how Belfort won't be getting a title shot anytime soon.

People think he is a phenom on the ground.
In reality he is a talent on the ground but is no where near the top level.
His striking is mediocre.
He beat up Mark Munoz, knocking him down with a good elbow and then winning by GnP.
He won a decision against Maia.

In short, he might be good but he is also totally over hyped ... due mostly to peoples misplaced belief about his ground game. He competed in ADCC as a purple belt. Now, its a fair old achievement to get there as a purple belt... i9n addition, he won his first fight there... great. he then got beat by Galvoa which is where the hype kicks in... he survived but it was kind of like watching a big cat play with a mouse. The mouse sometimes lives but not because its any threat to the cat. So, his grappling is pretty good but its all relative isn't it. Maia won ADCC, twice i think and has not achieved at MW in UFC and his striking is about same level as Weidman. Roger Gracie is the most successful BJJ competitor there has ever been, but he has yet to even get a contract. So, on that scale, Weidman is just not even on the same level, so hyping him on the basis of his grappling is plain daft. He does look good though, his transitions and movement are really nice and he is a very athletic guy... (this mostly what has kept him in the game at ADCC). His striking and footwork are not at the necessary level yet. If he got Silva to the ground, the spider would have his hands full but he is comfortable enough there to close Weidman out.... i dont know if he would be able to stand up again or how consistently Weidman would get him down. Most likely the spider would knock him out before it ever got there.

Weidman already made it pretty clear he wants nothing to do with this fight, just let him fight Anderson so he will shut up already.
