Remember when melchor menor broke the bat with this a kick on TUF? Yeah the same variables apply:

1) proper technique, kicking with the thickest and widest part of the shin
2) kicking the thinnest part of the bat. They tend yo splinter at the handle and the head tip. just watch mlb.

Weidmans knee was basically the widest part of the bat which is his leg. Silvas kicked him with the thinnest part of his bat which is his leg. Stronger part won, things like this happen.
 
It also has to do to the fact that most Thai fighters have killed the nerve endings in their shins. I don't know if Andy's on that level doe
 
Same reason no mma fighter would try it. completely different traing regiment. gawd remember when mlb players would break bats over their knees when they struck out? the knee is a VERY strong body part above and below.

?? A thai fighter wouldnt have cried as much if his shin was split in half?
