If you keep the gun in a temperature controlled environment, it shouldn't rust. When let it sit around in humidity during the the summer, even in a case, that's when it could really fuck things up.

Why not, I already have one of my pistols under my couch cushion, I don't need all of them lying around.

You don't want it stored in something that can trap in moisture or something that can get damp from humidity. Really the ideal place to store it would be in a safe with a humidifier.

Meh, its a taurus. I'd just lock the slide back and put weaponshield on the:

Slide rails
Front barrel/slide lock up area

Close the slide and put some on the barrel hood area, rack it a bunch and be done with it.
