We should appreciate Conor as we appreciated BJ Penn.

Penn was one of the most skilled fighter ever just a lazy mofo or would be goat. Conor has like 1 skill he excels at.

Penn actually proved himself before jumping around.

Naw man very different situation.

Penn was a great fighter and in no way shape or form as a fighter should be compared to Conor, who is a one dimensional KO artist.

However their careers have a lot in common. BJ surrounded himself with yes men who never gave him the advice he needed. He jumped around weight classes looking for a challenge, which shortened his career and hurt his record. When he beat Hughes the first time he basically lost his mind; he thought he could beat and do anything. At that point in MMA (and really even now) the people that exist to tell you not to do this kind of stuff were not there like they are in boxing. If he would have just stayed in his lane his career could have been much different.

BJ penn could jump out of a pool.

Just to keep in mind the type of martial artists we're comparing, BJ not only is one of 2 ever two division UFC champions, but is one of only 3 non Brazilian world jiu-jitsu champions.
If Conor wins the belt at LW he wouldn't be far from BJ in terms of accomplishments.

To win the belt at Lighweight and then win the belt at Welterweight (a 15 pound jump, instead of a 10 pound jump) is a huge accomplishment. Conor is never going to see the shine off the lightweight belt anyways so there's no reason to even talk about it. Dos Anjos would have immediately went for the takedown and wiped the smirk off of Conor's face for all eternity.

Conor is way less of an insufferable douche.

Yeah I said it. Say it again too.

Obviously BJ is a jiu jitsu savant but we're talking MMA here.

It's a freaking 5 pound difference. I don't think it's that unlikely that Conor wins the LW belt someday considering that he knocked out the FW GOAT with one counter punch.

BJ was a reigning defending champion and is the GOAT of a weightclass. He also won a championship a weight above and fought and was successful multiple weight classes above his. Even past his prime he went to a decision against who many regard as the better Diaz brother. Conor did none of this and was destroyed in his prime by Cabo Nate.

We give BJ praise for being a finisher, jumping up in weight, anybody anytime mentality, being LW GOAT until recently people are making other claims here and there. Everyone looks past all his losses at WW, MW, HW because he was willing to do it.

His LW record was 12-3, losing to Edgar twice and avenging Pulver loss.

Conor is very similar in those aspects. He goes up in weight, accepts short notice fights, is a finisher, and is a hell of a FW. So if Conor goes back to FW and defends a few more times, is he FW GOAT?

His FW record is 16-1 with his only FW loss being his FW debut.

We cant appreciate him the same way yet, because BJ earned his appreciation in a way Conor hasnt.

- BJ defended his UFC title numerous times, Conor never has

- When BJ jumped up in weight, he won the title, Conor hasnt

You cant compare them yet. Conor has to earn it.

Lol, no. Conor can't even defend his belt like BJ does it.

BJ and Conor are from two completely different worlds. If Conor defends his title at 145 and continues his run, then we can talk.

Until then

  • First American to ever win the World Jiu Jitsu Championship
  • The second man to win UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) titles in two different weight categories (lightweight & welterweight).
  • One of the fastest men to achieve the rank of black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ( 3 years and 4 months).

Case closed.

Well let's be honest on fight night Connor at 145 weighs more than BJ ever did at 155. Can anyone honestly see BJ in his prime being beaten by Nate Diaz?

BJ strangled prime Matt Hughes when Hughes was considered the WW GOAT. I don't even know who at LW Conor can beat to equal that feat. Oh and Conor has to fight at least one HW to even be mentioned in the same breath as BJ Penn

The lightweight division is so much better than the FW division. There are at least 5 guys that could beat Conor at lightweight and not break a sweat. This is absurd that we're even discussing this. Prime BJ would rape Conor back to the plumbing business.

Can Connie beat a fringe 155 contender first? When's the last time Penn ever tapped in the second? Penn has the frame of a 145, and he ate shots from guys like Rory without being knocked down...

Different league of toughness.

How is it that BJ doesn't seem to get the respect he deserves for the first 2 rounds of the FItch fight? He came out and put on a very impressive showing against a big WW. Up until that point how many people really planted Fitch on the canvas.

(The third, pure dissapoint tho)

That's not true, though. They are bigger athletes but not more skilled than the featherweights. LW is deeper but at the top it's pretty even with FW. And don't fool yourself, Conor is a tough opponent for anyone at 145/155.

Might have something to do with Rory toying around with your boy.
