I don't want them to lower the standards of getting a pHD, but we need a lot more doctors. The waiting times are ridiculous. I scheduled an appointment weeks ago and managed to get squeezed in yesterday and he referred me to a specialist and the earliest open spot is almost 2 months from now. That doctor will probably send me to do some testing which I'll need an appointment for, then I'll have to set another appointment with this doctor, then set up ANOTHER appointment with the doctor I just dealt with.

Why can't we only allow qualified doctors and medical personnell to migrate here? The waiting lounge yesterday was filled to the brim with people that every single chair was taken. The kids were just sitting on the floor. Not to mention 1/3 only spoke Spanish. I don't want any more people to come here and make the waiting times even worse.

Weird I've never waited more than a week for any medical procedure including two knee surgeries, back surgery and an eye surgery

I can only imagine what all this is gonna cost me. My insurance sucks.

This is definitely true. It has become so expensive to go to school to become a doctor that I don't see this issue fixing itself anytime soon.

I understand why the costs are high but I mean with it being such a vital profession in any society you would think it could be a little cheaper just so more people who could potentially be doctors would actually have the motivation to do it.

We have enough doctors, what we lack are residency programs.
And in your situation, some specialties are rigged to have the numbers suppressed, so for instance there might only be 5 dermatologists in Wyoming (Just a hypothetical) and. no additional practices can be opened. That’s a state by state thing

If we want to get more foreign doctors to emigrate it's probably a good idea to make it very hard for their family members to emigrate as well

.................

Doctors in US spend more time working on paperwork than doing their actual work, most of it dealing with HMOs. Countries with single payer healthcare don't have that issue because insurance is greatly simplified, so they get to do more real work. Thats probably one of the reasons why US spends about double the amount as a proportion of the GDP for healthcare.

How are the waiting times in Canada? If I'm gonna wait this long, might as well not pay for it.

Man, you ain't kidding. The amount of people killed every year due to malpractice is mind blowing.

We already get enormous support in the medical field from immigration. In fact, our health field relies on immigration.

For example, right now about 29% of our physicians are immigrants. 20% of Pharmacists. Obviously we get a tons of nurses from overseas, with over 150,000 coming from the Philippines alone in the last 50 years.

But we also benefit in other fields, we can't limit immigration to the medical professions. For example, 20% of entrepreneurs are foreign born and employ over 8 million people.

For treating patients, we want more people with MD (Doctor of Medicine) degrees instead of a PhD...unless they have the PhD on top of that. I know it can be frustrating dealing with doctor office staff who set appointments and trying to get into a specialist. Maybe call the specialist and see if they can notify you if they have any cancellations and can get you in earlier.

It didn't take you long to go from "I don't want foreigners coming here and increasing wait times" to "I'm going to a foreign country and increasing their wait times."

I wasn't talking about going there. I want their system here if the waiting times are the same yet I gotta pay for it

They do, mostly. The education is expensive but the income is also high to pay it off sooner. Cheaper schooling for lower income would leave people in pretty much the same place as far as motivation goes.

I've never had this issue. Did you only call one place and that's it? Why didn't you check multiple specialist?

Just go to Mexico and get your work done in a day like all the rich people do
