Way to combine Max Strength with cardio/endurance?

He'd be better off improving his cardio through direct training of his sport than doing some gay crosstraining buzzword.

He has specifically stated that he can only train BJJ 2-3x a week. He wants to increase cardio and strength. It stands to reason a good way for him to do this is to strength train twice a week and run twice a week. I don't care if you call it LISS or LSD or just running; there's no reason why running wouldn't be beneficial to him. Telling him to just roll more, when he's already stated that's not an option, is helping no one.
