Just like the 7 day fast that was just started, my ex-gf used to always be talking about this 7 day water only fast that she did one time and lost all this weight. But wouldnt it just make your metabolism slow down a lot and then once you got past the 7 days and started eating again, you'd gain all the weight right back?

Absolutely. Diets like this are totally useless. Unless your a chick preparing for wedding there's no point. First of all, you would feel like a piece of shit after going days with only water. You might even start losing muscle.
And like you said, the minute you go back to your normal diet you'll probably gain everything back. It's never good to put your body into starvation mode.

1) Fasts can have pro's but there are cons to ballance it all out.

2) Never take nutrition advice from a fat chick.

Actually during the 7 day fast I just finished I found day 3-4 I felt weak but by day 5-7 I had no cravings at all and I actually had more enrgy then normal. I actually lost over a week 16 pounds overall and that was less then a pound of LMM . Perhaps because I had a nightly protien shake mixed with water.

Why don't you ask your "girlfriend?"

I did ask her about it... hence i mentioned it here. See, the problem is, she doesn't know any more than the magazine that she read it in knows. Another problem is that she is my ex and we're doing the whole never speak to each other even again thing. :) And believe me, i'm not taking "advice" from her... i'm not about to do this fast thing, but she's all over it and i just wanted some reinforcement in my thinking. Thanks fellas.

The only weight she lost is water weight and shit. Her metabolism probably took a nice hit too.

This is a prime example of why NOT to get your next girlfriend a Cosmo subscription.

hahaha, it was Vogue. i saw it beside the john a few weeks back when i was over there... and chuckled.

Dear God, I thought this was going to be about depriving onesself of hydration. My T Levels were skyrocketing when I opened the thread.

I just don't accept fasting as an acceptable dieting regimen for athletes.

You shouldn't be so fat you need to lose 16 pounds in a week, CBDK. That goes for everyone.

Also, I seriously doubt you lost 15 pounds of fat out of 16 total.

In fact, I call bullshit. Not possible.

You were using a consumer BMI scale to measure, weren't you?

CBDK's method almost sounds like the last ditch effort of a man who has tried everything else. Atleast that's how he comes across. I've never put much stock in fasting, but I do admire the will power it requires...

Personally, if I was in CBDK's shoes (and I ain't) I'd try everything else again....harder.
Regardless, I'll be watching his log like a bulldog watches a great big medium rare steak as it comes off the grill and finds it's home next to a heaping pile of mashed taters and green beans.....oh, sorry CB....

ya she lost a ton of water weight....why would anyone deprive themselves and severely dehydrate like that....that could do some serious damage if done often.....same thing with going zero carbs....carbs is the only thing your brain uses as an energy source....both not very bright ideas
