Watching and ranking every Bond: No time to die (review)

Never say never again.

Didnt like it. Just a remake of thunderball which is one of the most boring bonds imo. And this one was worse. Besides the intro and the videogame scene this did nothing for me. It was cool to see Connery back in the role but it just felt like....roger moore is bond now, not you. Not to mention the fake ass Q and fake ass moneypenny. Why even remake this one?

Lol how old was Connery in that?

A view to a kill

Okay so not a bad one. Definitely a step up from never say never again but a big drop from octopussy imo. I felt like it was a little less ballsy and felt a little low energy and anticlimactic for what I was expecting for Moore's last bond. Walken was a decent villain. This one was hard to place, but although its definitely a better movie than golden gun, I still guilty pleasured golden gun too much to put it ahead of it.

Edit: actually I enjoyed diamonds more too

Cool Dolph Lundgren cameo too.

Final thoughts on Moores bond:

Definitely better than what people were saying. Dude isn't Connery but didnt try to be. Every movie it seemed, to me at least, that he really enjoyed the role. And his films are just straight up fun.

Next up is the Living daylights.

I'm loving this thread.

I have them ranked slightly differently from you but this is highly respectable imo. Never say never again was only made because there was a copyright dispute situation over Thunder Ball and one of the guys who produced Thunder Ball got cut out of producing future Bond movies. So he remade it with a slightly altered plot "because he could" - which is the same reason Connery signed up for that movie

That's interesting and pretty weird. Mostly because someone was saying earlier that Connery hated filming Thunderball because of the water scenes so Its surprising that hed want to redo it.

Wasnt there a similar situation with the original casino royale film?

I have heard that as well on Casino.

I’ll try to find the documentaries that talk about this stuff and post them here.

also this article has some stuff:

How “Never Say Never Again" Got Made

The combination of McClory's desire to exercise his rights to remake "Thunderball" against the wishes of Cubby Broccoli's EON Productions, and Sean Connery's bitterness to the official franchise (and the promise of a hefty $3m pay day) were not enough to make this Bond movie a Bond movie. No gun barrel, no James Bond theme, a luck-lustre score, uninspired cinematography and hokey special effects reminded audiences what they were missing. Roger Moore's official entry of 1983, "Octopussy", beat "Never Say Never Again" at the box-office by more than $20m.

I've ranked every movie I've seen that was derived from a graphic novel or comic book, think I'm to 170 or so movies now - but I like the idea of ranking the Bond movies too. I started watching them in order again a few years ago when I noticed Amazon Video had them free. I watched Lazenby's one and was astonished how well the fight scenes were compared to Connery's. It changed my overall perception of him and his ranking, in spite of only having the single movie. I think I'll restart this and rank them as well. I think it's important to have a few check points when ranking them i.e. intro song, bond girl, quality of villain etc. Nice thread!

Best song for me would be live and let die. Best bond girl triple x, best villain is harder. Scaramanga maybe for the cheesiness or Loomis Blofeld.

Ohmss fight scenes were great yeah. Also loved the bobsled chase. Would've been interesting to see Lazenby in the moore films if he stayed on
