*Spoiler Alert*

Don't read if you haven't seen it yet.

Ok, As a fan of the Resident Evil games and movies, I was excited about watching the latest movie in the series. I actually enjoyed the 1st, 3rd and 4th movies, the 2nd one was meh ...

The 5th one, that I watched last night, was definitely the strangest out of all of them. I enjoyed it for what it was and liked the cameo performances of some of the characters from the game like Leon, Barry, Ada Wong (who is so freakin' hot in this movie!). But this movie had so many plot holes that you could drive a truck through it, it gave me more questions than answers.

1. How the F**K is Wesker still alive after what happened in Resident Evil 4???

2. Why does the Red Queen now want to kill humans, whereas before she only killed humans in order to protect the human race as a whole ... now it's like she wants to wipe humans off the map, wtf ;??

3. Why is Wesker now a "good guy" ... it doesn't suit his character and why would the good guys trust him??

4. Why did that women become so strong from injecting herself with the "Las Plagas" embryo, she was almost invincible.

5. Why did Luther West die?? I thought him and Alice had like a potential romance thing going on ... he died and she hardly reacted as if she ever gave a shit.

6. Where are Chris and Claire Redfield??

7. Why is Jill Valentine blonde??

Apart from all of these gaping plot holes and inconsistencies in the story ... I kind of liked it. I might watch it again to see if I missed anything.

6/10

the plot was ludicrous

aside from the opening sequence there really wasn't much that I liked about this movie

1. The virus is just that damn magical that he came back together.

2. I think it said something about making the human race extinct then starting over, but not sure.

3. He's human to a point, so he at least has that in common. He doesn't want the human race to become extinct.

4. This series is full of stuff like that. I just assume it must do that.

5. I found that a weird choice as well. I thought he'd be a main character for much longer. Alice is probably somewhat used to people dying. She's only lost so many of her close friends in the series.

6. This was something I was wondering. I really don't get why they weren't in this movie. You would have thought they'd been controlled by the Red Queen or something instead of Jill.

7. Is she fuckin hot or what in this movie? I didn't recognize her at first, but the blonde hair and that out fit were amazing throughout the movie. I hope she keeps it for the next movie.

I actually really enjoyed this movie. I don't come to a Resident Evil movie hoping for any type of story. I'm looking for crazy effects and good action scenes. I was pleasantly surprised with the fight choreography. Obviously, it wasn't completely realistic, but it looked really good. It showed some real techniques, and the camera angles were sick. I also thought the 3-D effects in this movie were fun. This is the exact type of movie I want to watch in 3-D. I want to feel like I'm inside a videogame. Resident Evil delivered. I kind of doubt it will be the same outside of the theater. The last one wasn't near as good outside the theater, but I still enjoy it.

Thanks for trying to clear up some of the issues. I too usually ignore plot holes when I am watching this kind of movie, but some of the inconsistencies were so big, that I just wanted to get some answers.

I love resident evil, but kind of wish they would go back to their "survival horror" roots especially in the game series. The latest game, Resident Evil 6, looks like Call of Duty or something. In terms of the games, resident evil 4 onwards has just been an almost shoot 'em up/hack n' slash game ... I preferred the minimalist horror that we had in the first few games.

The movies were never half as scary as any of the games. I think they kind of took that stance in the very first one, but it is what it is. The last two literally have been shoot'em up videogames pretty much which I had no problem with.

I honestly cannot remember too many zombie movies that were genuinely scary. I know of many that I honestly enjoyed, but not genuinely scary. This is one instance when it's easier to do in a videogame. If I still had a videogame system, Resident Evil would be one of the few games I'd play.

I liked 1, 3 and 4 the best as well. As much as I love this while series, I think it might be time to put it to bed. The 5th one wasn't very good at all.

I actually preferred the 5th one to the 4th one. The 4th one's story actually did leave me thinking it was kind of corny. I still enjoyed it as I was wanting to see the zombie fighting action more than anything, and it was there. Now, the 5th one was a genuine videogame to me. It was so cheesy at times, it was awesome. They even managed to up the zombie fighting by a ton. That's what I enjoyed about it. I also liked how they had some hand to hand combat scenes as well as the guns and car chases. For pure action sequences, this may have been the best of the series. For story and suspense, the 1st and 3rd were by far the best.

I still laugh at Chris pushing a big rock on the magma

This movie was a complete utter piece of shit, even compared to other RE movies. It had so much fail and stupid fuckery that I don't know where to begin.

The games suck too nowadays.

Never get why they ruined RE so much
Fuck Tomb Raider and the whole action-stuff-with-female-protagonist trend it caused to this planet

I miss good old 80's retardness with the action badass that shoot at fools and overhand smashes skulls with bad boxing technique, and after get his prize from the hot big boobed female side-character :icon_chee
Yeah, Caveman Power bitches

RE characters are so much movie easy translation:
Chris (badass action movie destruction. Gun, knife, fist and balls)
Clair (female sidekick)
Leon (wannabe new hero, younger and cooler)
Ada Wong (because hot ex villain bitch is a must)
Wesker (superpowered obvious white blond traitor son of bitch is obvious)

The formula was perfect, too bad RE movies are born when the TR trend was still strong

This movie was the worst in the franchise (and I'm an RE apologist) by far. The plot holes you mentioned pretty much sum it up. Also, I understood by now that the canon characters from the games weren't going to get a spot-on representation of them on film, but really... Barry Burton and Leon Kennedy working for Albert Wesker? Does not compute (and really, if you're going to put canon characters in the movie, either give them enough screen time and dialogue for them to shine or don't fucking bother; I can't remember a single thing either of them did in that film that was worth them being involved to begin with).

Also, since when did the Licker make coc00ns like the xenomorphs, and why does it only coc00n the little kid when it shows no regard for killing everyone else? Oh right, because this movie needed as many excuses for padding as possible and Paul W.S. Anderson didn't get enough of an Alien fix when he shit the bed filming AvP. That five minutes where Alice rescues the deaf girl wasn't just a rip off of Aliens, the film BECAME Aliens.

I could probably go off on more of a rant but I'd rather not recall anymore of that film's crappiness. Between that and Silent Hill: Revelation, the horror fanboy in me died a little bit last year.

Edit - that dude who played Leon Kennedy was garbage.

The portrayal of the canon characters is pretty much irrelevant: they're just added as a cash grab, a way to get fans of the franchise excited. "Okay the last film was horrible, but next one has character X! I have to watch it!". 2 had Jill and Nemesis, 3 had Claire, 4 had Chris and Wesker, 5 has Leon and Ada.

If you look at it, there's absolutely no reason (aside from what I just mentioned) to name characters in the films after characters from the games. It doesn't mean any thing when it comes to characterization (most video game characters are pretty bland so they have to build them from the ground up anyway) and the way they're inserted in the plot has nothing to do with the games either (aside from maybe Ada). They're just borrowing known names and looks.

This movie has one good thing about it. One.

The scene in the white hallway (where Milla flees the Tokyo simulation) and takes out about 12 zombies. Maybe the most realistically timed and functionally choreographed action sequence I've seen in a (pseudo)superhero film. Save for one flip. It was...

Everything else about that film (and the series, for that matter, beyond the first 30 minutes of the first film) is total shit.

Imagine a RE movie with a cast like that

Do it or don't bother

Problem is they just don't give a fuck
Everytime a VG movie is made all from the director to the casting dude feel free to do the fuck they want

That scene was fucking awesome. I was very impressed by that sequence. There are some other good action bits in the movie as well, but that was by far the best.

I think many of us enjoy ripping on movies more than watching them. lol

Retribution sucked pretty bad. I hope they don't do anymore.
