Wasted Talent

You guys probably do not give a shit about hip-hop but a young rapper named Dolla from Georgia got shot and killed in 2009 and at 19 he was a seriously great hip-hop artist. And another rapper who died who was on the cusp of mainstream success was Speaker Knockerz. 19 years old this kid was pushing out nothing but straight up party bangers, 2014 and even 2015 everyone was banging this kid. Both of them would of been famous if they didn't die as young as they did.

I liked Angela Bettis, would have liked to see her do more horror. Though maybe she'd get stuck playing the same roles over and over, because I think she's great as a weird ass crazy chick lol, so they prolly would have kept running with that

Gotta agree. Underrated actress.

Well, Lance Henriksen made a lot of movies, but could have been a legit Hollywood actor. But I am happy he was relegated to B movies and horror flicks, bc I like those better than Hollywood movies.

He had some tiny and supporting roles in some fantastic big movies... Dog Day Afternoon.

Obviously the Terminator and Aliens, but also heavily marketed big screen movies like Stone Cold, No Escape and Quick and the Dead, which weren't that good but where he shone.

I actually can't think of a single B movie (offhand) that he was in that was worth watching. I might be forgetting something, but I watched a good number of B-movies just because Lance Henriksen was in them, and they pretty much all sucked.

I think he came close to getting the most out of his talents... Between this and Lock Up, he had two awesome, memorable characters. Pretty good for just a muscle dude that came out of porno.

Chris Farley did some all-time SNL skits, then made one great movie. He was a jackass in the movie, but he actually tried to act also. And it worked. So far so good.

Then he took bad career advice (apparently), shitty parts in shitty movies, and cokewhored himself to death. Doesn't get much worse than that IMO.

Pumpkinhead immediately comes to mind. The Horror Show. Piranha 2 (directed by James Cameron).

Burt Young

Claire Forlani

Martin Kove

Charles Napier

Eric Roberts

Steven Berkoff

Ron Silver

Kurtwood Smith

Jurgen Prochnow

All of them achieved a fair bit, but more good roles should have come their way.

Piranha 2? Well, it was better than Deep Blue Sea...

I will combine Lance Henriksen and our buddy Kick Strickland (Thomas Ian Griffith) and say that Excessive Force wasn't bad for a straight-to-VHS cop movie.

I'm actually gonna look at the resume here and list the B-movies I've seen with good old Lance...

Choke Canyon - crap.
Survival Quest - fucking terrible, but you could tell Lance was going places.
The Outfit - cheap low budget nothing.
Man's Best Friend - Piranha 2 with dogs instead of piranhas.
Nature of the Beast - bad.
Unspeakable - one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I'm gonna quit. This is depressing me.

That's why I'm saying he's a wasted talent.

I wouldn't be too disheartened. He's still a lot younger than Alan Rickman was when he started acting. Plenty of time to change his mind about the whole thing.

So I was re watching '3 Ninjas' the other day after many years and I couldn't take my mind off how awesome the bad guy was. Rand Kingsley is his name. He took a badly written, over the top, cliched character and made it memorable. Seriously, a very good performance. Especially considering how mediocre and campy the direction is.

So I went on IMDB to see whatever happened to him and apparently he only had 1 more part, which was a 2 line cameo, 6 years later. Couldn't say I wasn't disappointed. Such a waste of talent imo.

So which actor/actress do you feel had the potential and the talent to achieve much more in their career? Whether it's small time actors that could have made it big or big names that could have been much bigger.

Great thread guy.

Jennifer Lopez:

Poorly rated as an actress, but her turn/chemistry with George Clooney garnered big praise back in the day.

Jenny from the block was legit; stunning, great body, street cred. But she squandered dramatic potential in favour of becoming the JLo brand, including generic rom-come.

I think she coulda been a contender...

Jon Jones has wasted some of his prime. Aaron Hernandez was a hell of a hybrid tight end until...

Bo Jackson. Not wasted, really, but cut short. Think of what he would have accomplished.

Yeah, a few great athletes got robbed of careers that could have been truly incredible...

Mike Bossy, Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros.

I wish Brock Lesnar had taken up real fighting many years earlier. Shane Carwin as well.

I think Ross Perot could have really achieved a lot more in politics if he had started younger, or aligned with the Democrats or Republicans.

Also, the Red Baron.
