In Tito Ortiz's biography he claims that Matyushencko was a Russian Olympic wrestler.

However, when I looked up Matyushencko's Wikipedia page, I could not find anywhere that he competed in the Olympics..

Can you answer this for me?

Tito has never told a lie. Errrr... well....

He wasn't to my knowledge. IIRC, he was a Belarusian national champ and perhaps competed at Worlds too, can't be arsed to look it up.

A Janitor reference. Man that takes me back. Solid fighter and I hated seeing him get absolutely decimated by Jon Jones. He still had a decent career.

My reaction when that fight got announced right after Jones' destruction of Vera:

The Janitor came in:

11th in the world championships at 90Kg in freestyle back in 94

He came in 2nd in Europe in freestyle that same year.

He never was, at least i didn't find any proof

I still think he threw the Jones fight. Not saying that he was going to win but the effort he put out to me was severely lacking.

Then he got a 3 fight contract extension immediately after losing to Jones. Fishy to me.

Now i know shenko beat some olympians in wrestling(hence the janitor reference, which he was labeled after kevin jackson and other U.S. guys saw him cleaning mats and thought he was the janitor) but not in an olympic match iirc

The thing is though....

This narrative that vlad was an olympic wrestler has been around since at least 2002

Quote from the book
brawl:a behind the scenes look at mixed martial arts competition

Ortiz found himself stepping into the octagon with Russian Olympic wrestler Vladimir Matyushenko.

They also arlovski'd his ass and incorrectly refer to him as "russian" instead of being from belarus

So who the hell knows
<{hughesimpress}>

Was just thinking about him, since i saw a court docket that his wife filed for divorce from him last years

I'm not sure I'd accuse him of that but I WAS shocked at how easily he was put away by jones. He just seemed slow and passive.

Best knowledge on Vladimir I've seen this week
Congrats to you

Regardless, Ortiz soundly outwrestled him. Mind you, Tito was an absolute monster at that point.

At some point near the end of training, kristin came up to visit me.
were still constantly talking about having a baby. Well one thing led to another and we ended up having sex.
It was just one time, then she left and i went back to training

I went to bed early on september 10 2001
When. Woke up the next morning i found out the whole world had changed
