Was the "Labyrinth" real?

Like the Wizard of Oz, the Labyrinth was an allegory formulated by Sarah's subconscious. The allegory pertained to the indomitable spirit of growing up, people trying to take advantage of situations, and universal experience, codified in abstract form due to her unique mind/existence. As TS mentioned, everything in the Labyrinth can be found in her room, if you look.

Might be worth hunting down the script to find out for sure. Maybe the directors commentary clears this up also.
