When I saw him fight Lewis and turn up the heat, it looks like he has an extra level in him that isnt put to use.

Could it be that he was a way better fighter than people think, and that drug use turned him into a rather mediocre fighter?

Or am I mistaken?

he was a sparring partner, he lost to anyone half decent and got a Lewis who was extremely complacent and was very poorly trained at that stage in his career

he got lucky winning a version of the title IMO

I heard he gave tyson a run for his money

He may have overachieved.

If you factor him in for his best wins and his mental inconsistency it is pretty damn amazing he held a title in that era.

He had championship tier durability and KO power.

He had a lot of great tools but he was also undisciplined and a drug addict throughout most of his career. It's a wonder he even made it as far as he did.

The guy may have had the best chin in boxing history. From what I know, he was never knocked down, and he's actually still an active boxer at 59 years of age.

McCall is still active and has never been dropped as a pro in 77 fights but Chuvalo can claim the same in 93 fights. The latter was in with guys like Foreman & Frazier. Mercer is up there as well. He had never been dropped or stopped until he ran into Wladimir Klitschko but by then he was already in his early 40s. Vitali was never dropped as a pro boxer either but he was knocked out by a head kick in 1992 in a kickboxing match against Pele Reid.

Nr 1 for me is Hagler based on reports. I never watched much of him

Mercer got koed by Briggs later so Mcall has to be above hm

Yeah when he was like 44 years old. Where do you see me ranking their chins? It's subjective anyway.

Many people feel its Foreman, but I think his chin is overrated. Ron Lyle, while a big puncher, is not a top 5 hardest puncher and he made Foremans legs rubbery.

I would love to say Foreman since hes my favorite fighter, but its not him

It's probably between Chuvalo and McCall for me.

The thing about McCall that's just incredulous, is that he was in the ring with Lennox Lewis, one of the hardest punchers of all time, crying and refusing to defend himself, and Lewis was throwing bombs at him, yet McCall barely showed any effect from the punches. It just felt like the guy genuinely didn't have an "off switch".

Mercer from what I remember did get dropped by Holyfield, but he was an incredibly tough guy without a doubt.

You're right about that. Holyfield did make him take a knee in their 1995 fight. I forgot about that. HBO credited Wlad for being the first man to drop & stop Mercer so they were only correct about the latter (Wlad was the first to stop him). Holyfield put him down with a left hook which is what Wlad used to floor him. As for McCall he's just built differently. His chin is certified granite.

Tua also had an impressive chin. He was only dropped once that I know of in the pros and that was against Monte Barrett. Never stopped as a pro. However, he was KO'd in the amateurs by Savon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jake Paul asks Oliver McCall for Boxing fights. Oliver is currently 59 years old. Jake Paul always wants to have Boxing fights against dinosaurs, correct?

If anything, I might be interested in Jake Paul having Boxing fights against Elijah McCall. Elijah is currently 37 years old, he has a record in Boxing fights, and Oliver is the father of Elijah McCall.

Even though it's true that Elijah hasn't had any Boxing fights in many years, he has a better record than 0-0.

For the longest time, it seemed like Jake Paul wanted to have Boxing fights against mofos that were 0-0 and only those types of mofos.

For example, Jake asked Ben Askren to have Boxing fights against him.

In Boxing fights, Ben Askren is 0-1.
