Was Melvin not confident in this fight?

I was watching his octagon introduction and he looked confident as hell:

I don't get it, isn't this how Conor carries himself during the intros?

Maybe he was on the cocaine again?

He's way too confident IMO - still swings wildly in fights while his chin deteriorates

Probably the most amped I was after a win. JLau kept cool and calm and I remember thinking damn Melvins pumped. I miss 1st RD JLau

Too bad, I like Melvin, used to be a very exciting fighter

He was on a good win streak at the time, wasn't he? Probably thought he'd smash Lauzon on the feet. Same as Chiesa who was looking the better on the feet before he got lit up and the fight was stopped for a cut. Then spent the next few months whining he deserved a re-match.

Melvin was on the cusp of a title shot when he lost here, and IIRC, Dana said Melvin was hanging out in the casino earlier in the day, acting like it was an easy fight. Shame, with the roll he was on at the time he could have knocked any LW out.

I remember this fight like it was yesterday. He had all kinds of momentum, was knocking everybody left and right, then called out Lauzon and people were like, dude wtf, risky fight against a fighter ranked way lower (back then). During the walkout, the dude spent the energy equivalent to a 10 rounds fight, then, the rest is history.

No Melvin was confident and fought reckless Conor is confident and doest lose his composure in the fight. Melvin should've destroyed jlau that fight he was clearly faster than him and had the power advantage but of course Melvin did what he does when he feels he doesn't respect his opponent case and point his last bellator fight came out confident and rushed in like a jackass and got knocked out at least three times in that fight.

When melvinn fought someone like Jeremy stephans he never lost composure stayed the course Bell to Bell and it worked Melvin had all the tools to be champ key word had then he had the best coaches Jackson's in his corner and three it all away fight stupidly in the jlau fight and left Jackson's after that.

That fight is still in my top 3 most satisfying fights since I've started watching the sport.

He dedicated his fight to Randleman so he was probably in a different mindset than usual, which also explains how he fought which was way more aggressive than usual.

Haha nailed it! I was highly emotionally invested in Melvin at this point too hoping he would be the one to ko Frankie because I was crushed BJ Penn fan who wanted a KO artist to take the belt from Edgar.

I gotta admit tho Frankie has grown on me massively over time and now he is one of my favorite fighters. He's in the talks for biggest heart and will of all time MMA fighters.

Not sure about the casino part, because this was in Houston, and I'm not certain they have casinos. Could be wrong though. He was at the fan expo the day of the fight.

Seen it with my own two eyes. I got his signature and picture. I found it odd he was at the expo instead preparing for the fight, as there was nobody else on the card at the expo. I guess signing autographs was more important than preparation. That didn't work out well for him
