Was it rope a dope (tactic) or sheer imposing will?

You gotta give it up to Thiago Alves. I implore you to go back and watch that fight. Mind you I almost bet money on Mein.....I thought for sure he would win.

The first round Alves was getting destroyed; literally a 10-8 round if ive ever seen one, then when round 2 started, holy poop....Thiago was a different fighter.

Was this tactic to lull Mein into a certain pace or just Alves flipping the switch out of fear of losing? ....and if its flipping the switch, does this kinda prove that fighting is more about aggression and the mental aspect?

He was a different human being in round 2

conversation will likely not move past your claim about how dominant of a 10-8 round it was

I think it was luck. He just meant to throw a body kick and because Mein circled away Alves hit him in the solarplexius. Mein was picking him appart.

I wouldn't call the 1st round 10-8 but that body kick was brutal. Bunch of nice comebacks last night.

Thiago was getting outpointed and simply just tagged. He found a great opening and just went for the kill.

In what way was it luck? That kick was thrown with the intention to hurt somebody and thats exactly what it did.

don't be a jerk just because you can. go back and watch the last minute of round 1 he had alves wobbly almost putting him away, controlled him entire round

not in the 2nd, rewatch...alves even moved different.

it was two guys with good striking, one was a guy with huge power vs a rangey fighter. the rangey fighter was winning by controlling the rnage but the guy with power eventually got an opportunity to close in and blast him

it wasnt luck or someone messing up etc. both guys played the hand they were dealt. maybe mein couldve won if he found a way to keep away from the cage, but alves managed to get him cornered

he won the round and rogan was really excited - I agree w that much

don't see how I was a jerk I made a pretty mild claim

he was getting worked in the first. people are downplaying the amount of damage he took

True, the kick was throw with bad intentions. But if the bodykick had hit him in his right side like intended Mein wouldn't have gone down. It takes a shot to the liver or solarplexius to go down like that. And Alves didn't aim for Meins solarplexius.

I watched the fights with a friend.

After the first round, I turned to him and told him that Mein spent too much energy and was going to get knocked out.

I think (to his credit) he was going for broke after being outstruck in the first. But nobody's gameplan is to take that much damage in the first only to turn it up in the second.

ok maybe, but does a fighter have to be bleeding from every orifice for it to be a 10-8? he was getting owned

TS, are you being serious? Nobody builds a strategy around taking that much damage in the 1st round. He won and it was a great kick but let's not pretend that was his plan all along.

The kick was intended to hit him in the left side not the right side, the right side would be "the liver kick"
