first of all I want to say that I dont feel like I was robbed. it was a ref's decision and the guy was on top. i thought the decision made sense. i was not as active.. one of my more disappointing performances. after the match 2 black belts and some people in the stands guys told me I was robbed. Just want to hear f12's opinion. this was at a tournament about over a year ago.. im in the white
I'd have ruled it in his favor too. a) he stayed on top b) presumably you pulled guard which can be seen as conceding that you don't think your throws and takedowns are good enough to beat him c) if you did pull guard then that means you chose to play guard and then failed to do anything with it. In situations like this where no advantages or points are scored I'd almost always rule in favor of the top player, mainly because in a real fight he'd have been able to strike more effectively. Edit: Not that I'm a ref or anything, just my personal take on it.
no thats what I was thinking too. its an old match. made me realize that top players are more likely to get the RD i can only hit teh 240 brah
No one was "robbed" per say because it went to ref's decision. Just because he was on top does not mean shit. And there is no penalty for pulling guard in BJJ. You had a near sweep; advantage. He pressured and forced into your half guard; advantage. You threw up the triangle although he lifted you and it was not enough for an advantage, it was enough for my e-ref's decision to go to you. I have officiated at BJJ events before, not IBJJF, but this did not look like IBJJF anyway. Again, I would not you were robbed, but you won. It may have been a 'robbery' if he did not force get past your guard into half, since you should have gotten an advantage for near sweep and were close to an additional adv with the submission attempt. I would not say you lost because of doing nothing from bottom. One can always do more, but that goes for him as well. - E
I think you're clearly better than him and his game is one dimensional... but he's strong and had a frustrating approach.
You definitely showed more skill and had a great defensive guard. You were more active from the bottom and he couldn't really pass. Great job man, tough match.
I watched the video before even reading which one you were. The video doesn't show how you got to the ground so with out that being into play I had you winning. you threatened him with sweeps and subs he was never really close to passing.
This.... That said, you did good.Nick Greene was one of the better Blue Belts in the Bay. Was this Medium Heavy?
im 1/1 with him, but this was a while back and at 181 i think hes a mid heavy purple belt now i pulled guard like 5 seconds in
Good match man, you had a good guard and had a little more offense IMO. If I were you maybe really fight those last 30seconds so the ref will remember it. Even if you aren't doing much, just at least act like you are. Great guard though.
There was no offence when he was very close to a sweep (closer than the top player ever was to a pass)? Who the fuck gives an advantage for (guard recovery) the top player making the guard player switch guards and not for putting top on his ass/back momentarily (one second) during a sweep attempt. Ah, yeah; someone who has never reffed before and still argues officiating with refs at competitions although they have no real clue or grasp of scoring. OP was not "robbed" but there is no doubt he won, in BJJ. This is a BJJ match so bringing in wild, preposterous assumptions (like top would be able to punch) is ridiculous. - E
