I am at the college libary and this girl sits right next to me, looks wise she is not bad and then she starts small talk in regards to what course Im taking and what have you.

So here I am, enjoying a conversation and like the fact that her nose is not in her cell phone like other chicks. But then she asks me, "Do you have a Job?" I kind of was like wtf!?? But I answered with a yes and she said "very good and do you make good money??"

Man I got so angry for some reason and I just said "Excuse me but I have to finish my essay"

i don't know,maybe I was overreacting but damn that pissed me off big time when she asked me about money without even asking for my first name in the first place.

With that being said, was it bad that a question like that bothered or is it normal to ask ppl questions about money/job as a form of conversation? I ask because I know have a bit of a distorted perception of things + I wasen't as social as I am trying to be so Im not sure if my reaction was over the top or valid?

lol, i highly doubt that. asking about a job is fine. asking if you, "make good money" is rude and too personal.

there is a reason why money is never brought up at work, and is considered rude to ask in general conversations.

Whether or not you make good money is an intrusive question. But with that being said, I don't really know why it should make you angry. Just tell her she is being very forward.

She sounds socially awkward to me for not knowing that you're supposed to exchange names and build some rapport before asking such intrusive questions... but she might have had a good reason for asking (maybe she was looking for a job and needed some ideas??) and she deserved the benefit of the doubt.

You could have responded with, "Why do you ask?"
