The much anticipated fight between unified light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev and undefeated former super middleweight world champion Andre Ward, two of boxing's pound-for-pound elites, has a date and a site -- as long as both can get through interim bouts this summer.

The Kovalev-Ward fight, which was signed long ago but is contingent on each remaining undefeated through interim bouts, will take place Nov. 19 (HBO PPV) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The arena opened in April and hosted its first boxing event on May 7, when lineal middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez scored a spectacular knockout of Amir Khan in the sixth round.

I never like when a big fight is scheduled and signed when both guys still have a fight to get through. Never comes out the way everyone wants it.

now I hope one of them loses their the warm up. fucking disrespectful as hell. will not watch now no matter what.

Let the good times roll

Andre 'SOG' Ward will become Andre 'RIP' Ward.

*waits for someone to bitch that it's PPV*

Well, I won't be buying it. HBO can put whoever they want on PPV I suppose. There's not many fights I'll throw down money for right now.

This is a good fight, but I'm a little tired of every half decent matchup being something we have to pay an extra 60-70 bucks on top of an HBO subscription to see.

If Andre Ward vs Kovalev is not a PPV match, then what boxing match is PPV quality? You have bought some shit matches since I've been on this board, I don't think this is a good one to skip man.

Ward vs Kovalev is worth ppv money for sure, it's a very relevant and intriguing match up. I say Ward is the better overall boxer but he doesn't have much experience at 178 and could not close the fight against a fairly unknown fighter, Kovalev is a puncher of consequence against the elite of the division...He won't have much margin for error against kovalev, he will have to keep his A game all the way A for 36 minutes if he wants to pull of a win.

This is a great fight for fans. A real and relevant fight between two of the greatest out there right now. This is a fight worth every penny of a PPV purchase. Glad they could put it together. They shouldn't have announced it until after their upcoming fights though. I hate that and it gives me the feeling inside that one of them will lose.

Yes! Finally! A big fight between two P4Pers that just gets made, no fuss, no extra length marinating. Cannot wait for this fight! I genuinely don't know who will win this fight. Kov is a beast, but if we see Ward back to his best by then, even he'll struggle with to solve the Ward puzzle.

This fight is right up there for me with Gonzalez/Estrada 2, Gonzalez/Inoue. Top P4Pers in great fights.

no need for interim interim bouts

btw i think Kovalev easily smash

Gonna love watching this.

I've got Ward pulling out an ugly decision with hairy moments when Kov pins him against the ropes or counters him in the middle of his "moves"--like the Froch fight but more fraught.

Though, on balance, I know Kovalev's a harder hitter than Carl but I seriously don't think much of Sergei's whiskers. I can see a stoppage here.

But mainly, massively glad it's happening.

Ward will not see the final bell.

I'm definitely betting on this fucking fight depending on the odds..............................

Ward is VERY good boxer...(mind you, he looks like his legs are betraying him since his return...) but Kovalev is a straight up KILLER.

R.I.P. S.O.G.

I'm glad Ward is taking another fight before Kovalev. Smart thing to do considering his layoff and the fact he's up a weightclass. Should be a very interesting fight. Gotta favor Ward here, imo, even with him being a naturally smaller guy and all the layoff issues in the past two or three years.

I know a lot of people don't like Ward for different reasons but it's hard to find a pure boxer out there that's as skilled as he is atm. This isn't an easy fight by any means, Kov's a beast, but I think some people are forgetting just how good Ward is. Think this is gonna get pretty scrappy/dirty, Ward and Kovalev fouling each other, but Ward will stay out of a firefight and ultimately win a boxing match and get his in on the inside, frustrating Kovalev up close.

Kov needs to keep his jab going upstairs and downstairs (one of the few guys in the sport who can really pop a jab downstairs) and line up his powershots smartly. Ward's not gonna be dumb enough to just stand there and Kov is gonna have to mix his offense up well and if he's able to hurt Ward he's gotta follow up and make the most of it. No playing with his food this time around. Still favor Ward and his boxing but should be a fun one.
