Hi Support.

I'm curious about how the mods determine whether certain discussion threads should be held in the War Room or Mayberry Lounge subforums. Here are a few examples from the first page of the War Room right now:

Homo naledi new species of human ancestor found.

The pit bull is not an inherently evil dog...

Lawyer accused of sexism over LinkedIn photo comment

IQ Gene vs. Environment. Question

I understand that these topics can potentially be tied to policy decisions, but the OPs don't strike me as expressly political in nature. I fully support keeping the religion and feminism threads in the War Room but I think keeping other "intelligent discussion" types of threads in the Mayberry could encourage cross-posting and bring up the (rather low) level of conversation in the latter right now.

Just a suggestion. If the intention is less about separating topics and more about allowing certain subgroups of posters to interact with each other in one place I can understand that too.

Thanks!

It's hard to put definitive boundaries on the answer as much of this has to do with the context within the thread being created or direction the replies take thereafter. Loosely, I would suggest that if the world news you discover is controversial and you know will cause debate, or heated discussion or differing opinion or any such the like, then place it into the War Room.

If the news information is something less aggressive by perception and you feel might generate conversation similar to a social type setting, place it in Mayberry.

It's not an exact science, and both forums do receive a fair share of activity within them, so if it's determined the thread is placed in the wrong forum, it will be easy enough to discover in the next. This can be determined by the moderators online at the time either in respect to the content of the news, or the direction the conversation is headed - something you may not be able to identify when you create your thread.

I hope this helps. All the best.

Cheers for the answer Jmac.

Hello there,

I often don't know in which forum to post some news. War room or Mayberry? Some news are easy to place like political news or Hollywood new projects. If we could have a World News sub forum, we could put all kind of news in there with links so less threads would get deleted or moved.

Yay or Nay?

I can only speak for myself but it's pretty subjective and at times just matters where the thread was made.

The type of discussion that will follow is a part of it. If it's pretty serious it should be in the war room as mayberry is more lighthearted.

I merged these two as they're similar questions at the core.

Thanks.
