Textbook narcissistic grandmother. I had to take breaks from watching the Sopranos because Livia reminded me so much of her.

Ooh, this is a really interesting question. Sort of like asking how old you were when you discovered that mental illness was a thing. Will have to think about that. I really noticed it in people from about age 9 on. One that stands out is the Mexican from the pear packing plant who followed me and my little girlfriend to school a few times, mumbling to himself. There must have been things I noticed earlier, but that's a strong memory.

What did he catch the hammer for?
Inciting violence, said that we should start shooting people in the DOJ for relaxing 501(c)(4) donor reporting laws, among other things. That strikes me as an oddly specific thing to want to shoot a government official over. Especially since the policy was enacted in 2018.

Yea I'm trying to think of...when I was much younger...where I was cognizant that someone had issues mentally..

I think honestly....it was coming to the states that opened my eyes to a lot of it....

His name was Robert Paulsen.

For example..

I had a.childhood friend who recorded movies on VHS tapes and computer games on hard discs.

He would have them immaculately labeled in perfect handwriting.

I borrowed a couple movies one time and accidentally smudged one of the labels when I returned. He was so incredibly pissed. ..like dr jekyll mr hyde

I am sure it wasn't the first time, but early in my career I did an intake once with a client seeking legal advice regarding defamation and harassment. It took me about 5 minutes to realize that she was a paranoid schizophrenic (not a formal diagnosis, since I'm not a doctor, obviously). It was really quite sad; she was interpreting innocuous comments and store announcements as being directed at her, when contextually, listening to her, it was obvious that she was layering meaning into comments, gestures and looks which didn't exist. Basically convinced she was being persecuted.

I tried to talk her down as gently as I could, and explain that there wasn't much we could do for her legally under the circumstances, and tried to put as good a spin on the situation for her. She seemed generally satisfied with that. Not sure what else I could have done for her.

I'd forgotten about her for a long time.
