War room general question (sorry)

the rest of Sherdog mock this forum as a den of paranoid extremists. Just like P&M loves trannies, Mayberry gets cheated on by girlfriends, grappling forum catches staph and ringworm, and Worldwide forum is weaboos sitting in their mom's basement wearing nothing but red Minowa panties.

Add to that S&C being fat heavylifters with a grudge against lean people and let's not talk about the Boxing forum.

Honestly, a lot of those stereotypes are not too far from the truth. I don't consider myself a paranoid extremist and haven't had too much trouble with cheating (to my knowledge anyway) but knowing those two subforums, the WR has been on multiple occasions a Stormfront subsidiary and there was a reason the OT folks used to call their neighbours Gayberry (this was mostly when 90% of threads were about relationship/career advice, videogames and poop).

Watch MMA but really just casually now. At my old gym we had a lot of guys that fought and a local sports bar chain was a major sponsor. We'd get our own room at their main location and so for years I watched almost every PPV. My new gym doesn't do that and so I pretty much just catch fights as I can. Still train but unlike at my old gym, really just make once a week open mats. Joined here when I was first getting into bjj and mma, started posting with regularity really just in regards to politics.

Posted some in the grappling forum but never really enough to get a feel for the place and, frankly, while I'm pretty damn good on the mat I can't articulate what I do well and am ultimately just a hobbyist.

mma fan. but while the heavies gets a bad rap in here, i find that the war room is nearly unbearable. mma discussions can be fun, while politics and religion bring out the complete nutjob in posters.

Wow. I thought she was joking. You're comfortably in the top 10% of English speakers here.
Not joking . I'm terrible at detecting written sarcasm but reading people's every day written english gives you a true idea of how people really talk . If i use rosetta stone or other english language programs , i will talk like a book and not really the way people really speak english in the americas . I think some people didn't even know i was esl when i first started posting . It helps a lot , and war room is actually a very good place to learn it . There is a casual-ness / real talk but it's not overly full of slang or rude language . People are actually having real conversations here and not just joking or making fun of each other like other places on the internet . Basically if you and i were really talking to each other in real life , it would be exactly like the conversations we have here . A lot of fobs learned english back home but are terrible at conversational english because they read and repeat text books but not study the way real people talk .

My spelling and sentence structure is still atrocious though . I still rely on microsoft word to correct my written form for assignments . n.n

Me too, like ten years ago.

Smart . n.n great minds think alike !

Wow, this one of the most decorous WR threads I've encountered...and all it took is to get people talking about a blood sport.

I love this place.

I saw a CroCrop highlight somewhere that had the Sherdog logo on it somewhere on the net years ago.

Lurked for ages but ConanMemories stupidity finally got the better of me and I had to join to mock him.

Still check in every day, probably the only website I visit every single day, and multiple times.

I come to Sherdog for everything except MMA. I go to MMAJunkie for MMA news.

lol same here.

i posted in the heavies early on. for whatever reason, politics would occasionally come up and someone would start bitching about "taking it to the wr." so that's what i did. the heavies is a crazy shitfest now that i dont really get involved in, but i watch mma as much as i ever have.

I have a little on JDS, too. I was really surprised to see that Rothwell is the favorite. Makes me nervous, though, because if I disagree with the odds (or anything, really), I want to make sure I at least understand them. My (very crude) model gives JDS about a 61% chance, and subjectively, I think that understates it. Bovada is giving him implied odds of 47.8%.

I'm hoping it's just that people saw JDS struggle with Miocic (which I thought he would--I actually bet on Miocic, though I didn't expect to win) and match up badly against Overeem and they think he's washed up. I'm not saying I don't think he's past his prime--most 32-year-old athletes are, and he's relied on his quickness more than some--but I don't think he's taken a steep decline.

So, yeah, that went more-or-less as expected. JDS actually did better than I expected. Might have slowed down a little, but his footwork (and just willingness to get the hell away from the cage) was better than ever. Still don't know how people were seeing this as a likely Rothwell win, though JDS did become a slight favorite by fight time.
