Social War Room Awards Thread 2021: Locking It Back Down. (The Results Are In.)

The thing is people like that feel that admitting that you lean one way or the other means you are admitting to "bias" or that it makes you a "partisan"

But that's not really true. A sober minded, well informed person is generally going to have some set of values and policy preferences that generally has them leaning one way or the other. You can do that without necessarily being partisan or biased.

As for labels, they have their limitations but they can be a useful shorthand to communicate one's general values. Some people believe that they appear more credible by resisting such labels but I don't really see it that way.

Uh, what does that have to do with this conversation? I can't call out other posters for silly ideas because I'm in "a visible position of authority"? Also lmao at describing a mod of a dying karate forum in such terms.

bud you totally are an authority figure the same way an unpaid chaperone at a school dance is. Can you kick the trouble makers out of the dance? Yes. Will they likely sneak back in at the next dance? Also yes.

And you picking petty little fights is also immature.

Dude is always getting sniped either way, I don't know how Bald1 is being portrayed as the innocent one here. I've had to mentally check out from so many threads because of the repetitive, boring arguments they have.

I guess my point is it take two to be immature in this case.

Huh? You're the one quoted me first, how am I the one picking this fight? Also lol at quoting me twice in like two minutes, few things say "gotten to" more than double quoting.

Eh, it's a forum.

And it’s more likely your gotten to, seeing as you had to point it out.

I think the "centrist" label comes up because I have contempt for the populist left, which I regard as just being dumb rather than "too far left" or something. Populist leftists often try to tar their opponents on the left with the "partisan" label, but it's not an accurate representation of reality. There's this game they play: "I'm on the left, and I criticize other leftists so I'm super independent and cool, but if they criticize me back, they're not criticizing their own side; they're just hacks."
While I consider myself to be a left-wing populist as well as a social democrat and a left libertarian, there's a contingent of left-wing populists who are either useful idiots for the right, are right wingers without knowing it, or are grifters. Think Jimmy Dore, Glenn Greenwald, Tulsi Gabbard, etc. and their supporters. But I like authentic left-wing populists like Bernie Sanders. So perhaps I don't paint the populist left with as broad a brush as you do.

I believe @Bald1 has said himself numerous times he tends to lean right.

Not with me
So then why are you picking a fight with me? Thought that was immature?
I'd say that centrist Democrats are like Manchin and Sinema. Can't stand them. Like I said, I'm not in the center ideologically. I'm on the left. I support stuff like a SWF, SS for kids, and a land-value tax replacing income and corporate taxes, among other things. Stuff that wouldn't pass today. Also a big increase in (legal and regulated) immigration.

No, definitely never came up right in the middle of a political compass test, and I generally dislike those because it uses "left" and "right" but in ways that differ from the normal usages of those terms (generally refers to one's position on equality vs. hierarchy).

That goes back to the thinking in the old post you cited. The term is pretty unclear, and we should specify. As I said in this thread, I'm a conservative on the conservative/radical axis, but decidedly left on the left/right axis, and more than anything a liberal.

You're center-left in that you believe in liberal democratic capitalism and not a socialist revolution to overthrow capitalism and replace with whatever kind of Frankenstein socialist state that pops ups in the ensuing chaos.

Pretty sure we’re we’re just conversing. No idea it was a fight

True but I genuinely dislike that mentality, that offering tepid centrist takes and resisting political labels somehow makes one an independent thinker. I get it if you're a teenager but you should grow out of that mentality eventually.
This is a legit stupid take. I'm a liberal who isn't represented by any of our political parties so doesn't wear any of their jerseys. A spineless bitch who got bullied into waving the star and crescent flag, against their will, wouldn't understand. Probably why you're so bitter.

It can't possibly be as bad as when all the gun nuts get together on here. Not 2A nuts, like Call of Duty nuts.

Takes two you weasel. Reel in your random insults and we're good. Just in this thread you've gone out of your way to instigate, repeatedly, so don't play victim. Everyone's noticed.

Ball's in your court again.
I do enjoy how much that "weasel" comment seemed to have bothered you enough that you insist on turning it back on me. I guess its a better look than talking down to me for my skin color like you did before.

I'm 95% liberal philosophically. Left/right aren't synonymous with liberalism and conservatism any more, so here we are.

While I agree, labels change. And while a real liberal would look at the current democrat party as a legit danger. I'm not sure we can call ourselves liberal anymore. You sorta have to go where you currently belong. And like it or not, the right wing probably is where we are in the current political climate.
