I'm not even go into the whole creationism-taught-in-science-classes stupidity (which you can read about here if you're so inclined). This is about some other unreasonable things happening in American politics.

This guy proposed a bill adding "so help me God" to the air force academy oath.

Air Force oath (link).

This woman tried to propose a bill making attending church on Sunday mandatory for everyone.

Mandatory church attendance (link).

This guy forced public schools in Ohio to partner with Christian churches in order to receive taxpayer funding.

Faith-based funding (link).

This guy put forward legislation requiring every school day starts with teacher-led prayers.

Prayer in school (link).

And just for laughs: Sandy Springs, in Georgia, passes a bill making it illegal to purchase sex toys without a doctor's prescription (unless you're a politician).

No dildos without doctor's note (link).

I didnt click on the links but im going to make a rash guess and say they are all in America?

Opponents of religion should be happy with this in a way. It makes their positions look better each time the religious wackos try and force their beliefs on everyone.

And this is why I don't just leave Religion alone and why I'll continue to fight it every chance I get.

Absolutely insanity like this that's always on the verge of encroaching on normal people.

I dont think religious people would find war on atheism troubling, just like any atheists finding war on religion troubling. They are polar opposites.

Unsubstantiated theories can't be forced on everyone. A lot of people aren't even Christian, how can they all be forced to go to a Church? The church and the funny guy with a long hat (pope) with an ancient Egyptian type institution (religious higherarchy/belief system) was invented by people hundreds of years after Jesus' death. Christians today don't even actually follow the words of Jesus. How can they expect others to take them seriously?

Of course you're going to get some of this in a country that has so many highly religious people. Common sense, man.

Lol you can't make this shit up. Que looney toons theme tune..

I don't really see what the big deal is.

Sometimes, I think some morals should be forced on kids today. I'm sure lots of people do. Some people believe morals and values go hand and hand with religion.

I dont see how this is a "war on atheism." Ridiculous thread title. Sounds like a religion bashing thread.

No. We just don't think the exact same thing so it confuses you.

A person thinking religion could benefit others is not a "war on atheism." Thats ridiculous.

I'm not on board with everything I read but when you see the little fuckfaces who inhabit todays schools, I can say that some of them lack a moral compass.

I'm not saying its THE solution, but its pretty easy to see where these people are coming from.

Also, most of our oaths and pledges included God until recently. Lets not act like this is 16th century thinking.

So you're saying some people want more church in everyone's daily life and some people don't. I don't see how something like morning prayers are different then trying to the under God off of money. They're both nutty.

They need catholic priests to teach the kids some morals...

I sort of feel like you're making my point for me. Your opinion seems to stem from ignorance.

Personally, I'm not a religious person. But I did grow up in a very religious family. I was never molested. No one brainwashed me. I was not forced into religion. I was not taught to hate people they way some of you seem to believe is a requirement of religion. I wasn't forced to dance with snakes or go door to door selling religion.

This site is the only place where I have ever found myself defending religion, mainly because the image the average person on this site has of it is so ridiculous and cartoonish that its hard to ignore. Most of the comments I see are clearly from people who have no idea what they're talking about and get most of their info from South Park or American Dad.

Just saying, religion may not be the thing for you but its not the boogey man you think it is either.

Hes one of those imaginary victims whom "religion has been forced down this throat" and was told "he would go to hell".

You think its a coincidence that every atheist in this world somehow had that happened to them?

And this is why I don't just leave Religion alone and why I'll continue to fight it every chance I get.

Because taking an extremist sample justifies targeting the whole pacifist population.

Because you know, its totally not racist to judge the black population by their criminal statistics or anything.

Exactly. There's religious people and there's extremists. Some of you don't understand the difference.

I don't really see what the big deal is.
Extremists rarely do.

Sometimes, I think some morals should be forced on kids today.
Who's morals? You know not everyone's morals are the same don't you?
I'm sure lots of people do.
Ya, religious/brainwashed people.
Some people believe morals and values go hand and hand with religion.
Those people don't understand what religion, morals, or values are.

I dont see how this is a "war on atheism." Ridiculous thread title. Sounds like a religion bashing thread.
When it's making it illegal to be open as any demographic it's considered to be a "war on" that demographic.

Extremists rarely do.

You believe I'm a religious extremist? lol I'm not religious at all. I haven't been in a church for any reason other than a funeral in 30 years.

Who's morals?
Obviously the people who presented the idea.

I don't really get what this is trying to say.

When it's making it illegal to be open as any demographic it's considered to be a "war on" that demographic.

Atheism is illegal now?

You believe I'm a religious extremist?
Did I say you are?
lol I'm not religious at all.
Do you believe in god? Yes? Than you're religious.
I haven't been in a church for any reason other than a funeral in 30 years.
And?

Obviously the people who presented the idea.

I don't really get what this is trying to say.
Kinda the whole point.

Atheism is illegal now?
If a law is passed that makes religious ceremony mandatory it would be. So the attempt to make that a reality is a war on the non-religious.

Did I say you are? Do you believe in god? Yes? Than you're religious. And?

Kinda the whole point.

You specified "extremists." I asked you if you thought I was an extremist and you respond by saying if I believe in God, then I'm religious. Thats not what I asked, You didn't answer my question. If I were to say yes, I believe in God, you'd view me as an extremist? I don't think you know what an extremist is.

If a law is passed that makes religious ceremony mandatory it would be. So the attempt to make that a reality is a war on the non-religious.
Well, the law won't pass, so I don't think it matters. Are you aware that prayer was a regular thing in school in our recent history? And you'd say that schools are better off today?
