Wanderlei Silva released a video today in which he showed his support for Jon Jones by harshly criticizing the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Below are some of his comments:

"This commission is a mess. They don't know what they are [doing]...There's no set punishment, there's no set testing system. [They] have to be professionals. [They] ask for fighters to be professionals when [they] are not.

"Everybody knows the UFC is a business. They put on fights to make money, and in those regards they're not wrong. But the entity that implements the laws for the athletes, the entity that punishes athletes and controls their lives doesn't know what they're doing...It's a commission that doesn't follow protocols or laws.

"Instead of regulating [the sport], [they] are damaging the sport."

Your thoughts?

Wasn't of them Frittata bros part of that commission or something?

Lorenzo Fertita was for several years. And since the Fertita brothers purchased the UFC, there has been a revolving door for officials between the UFC and the NSAC. It's like Washington D.C. politics over there.

Crazy has it seems no one respects this guy any more. Sad

The commission is definitely a mess if you ask me. But how can we be surprised? It's a government run operation.

Wand should have hid underneath the cage.

They know what it means when you run away from their test kicking and screaming. I mean I'm not stupid. Pride had fixed fights and steroids galore. Wandy just refused to change with the seasons. Now he looks like a cheating fool. Never did too hot once the UFC bought him anyway. And btw Chael woulda won.

Not exactly the most unbiased opinion, but he's not wrong.

seems like a few of you could benefit from a lesson in logical reasoning.

Wand's personal history should have no bearing on evaluating what he is claiming.

So...do you agree or not with his claims that the commission is a 'mess', inconsistent with their protocols and practises, punishments, etc?

IMHO, it is obviously problematic when they seem to treat each case independently and have wide latitude in applying punishment. You show up and grovel, they go easy. You play innocent or are defiant, they go harder. Fines seems to change depending on the fighter. What fighters need to do to get licensed after punishments varies widely. Testing of fighters varies widely.

There should be room to address the unique facets of each case, but there should also be FAR more transparency and consistency on the part of the ACs.

Does your idea of logical reasoning always ignore human nature? Might work for math problems.

I agree the AC is filled with problems, but personal history begets bias, unless you think Wand is too enlightened for that.

The athletic commissions, especially the Nevada one, seem shady as fuck.
