This is a couple of weeks old, but I just heard someone say this and ill be damned it's true.

Candy Crush Made more than all of Nintendo Games combined in Q1 of 2014.

As an old school gamer, this makes me sad.

Thoughts?

As pointed out by A List Daily, in Q1 of 2014, Candy Crush grossed more money than all Nintendo games combined. Sure, that's easy to rationalize by saying "Well Nintendo didn't have any big releases and Q4 is where they make all their cash," but the fact remains, that's a mind-blowing thing to be able to report. They're not ahead by a small margin either, King is making 56% more money than Nintendo. King has mentioned in the past that Candy Crush generates 2/3 of their revenue, so, that game alone is beating everything Nintendo did.

clearly click bait by the originator of that article. Crush made more money than alot of other developers and publishers, but ofcourse throwing Nintendo under the bus sizzles the best.

I just don't get how a drop-puzzle game can make so much money, when there are a million clones out there with basically the same game.

This is the type of news that makes good triple A Studios wanna slit their wrist. (not EA)

It has been downloaded over 100 million times. Doesnt take a lot of micro transactions per person to make a shitload of money.

even stupid social games on Facebook make a shitload of money.
it's a strange world.

not surprised

wii u has been a massive bust

they would probably just trash it and start over but then theyd lose all trust of their fanbase that bought one

I worked a three day event this past weekend. One of the many panels had game developers talking. This panel mostly was commenting on how those present should be focusing on the mobile market. Only one member commented on the rise and current sustainable market of Pc gaming an not to overlook it.

Consoles werent even brought up.

More profit ? not hard to believe really.
Candy crush looks like a very easy game to make and very low production costs, god knows how much money they make selling users information.

They've been pumping out some pretty damn good games for the 3DS over the last two years.

The last game I bought for the DS was Fire Emblem: Awakening which was a damn good game.

I should have been more specific and said that I haven't heard much about the Wii U in some time.

The 2 guys that set up King are now richer than the British royal family in about 18months

King are hiring like mad in London

Splashing a lot of cash around

They gotta realise it ain't sustainable forever surely

the game also lets you buy lives so you dont have to wait a whole day to replenish.

you can actually just fast forward your smartphones clock and get new lives.

Plus there's minimal development, research or testing. They just rip off an idea from an existing app or forgotten game. The app store is like Chinese street vendor, they're all selling knock off shit but since Apple has their hands dipped into it, it's perfectly cool.
