First off...great fight by Reyes against Jones But in my humble opinion, Volkan actually looked better against Reyes than Jones did So heres my review on Volkan, and why he should get the next title shot at Jones He KOed Latifi - something Derrick Lewis, one of the most powerful HWs could not do He outstruck Rakic, who is easily one of the top strikers at LWH He had his 1st title shot against DC too soon, and has greatly improved his takedown defense since then He did get choked out by Anthony Smith, but so did Gus, and Volkan has greatly improved his cardio since that fight So give Volkan the shot...dont go with Corey (Boring) Anderson or Jan (my best wins are MWs) Blanchowitz I would think if Volkan can defend Jones takedowns, he would have a great change to outstrike non PED jones
Disagree with outstriking rakic (actually believe rakic won that close fight), but I believe as long as he beats either Smith in a rematch or Corey/Jan, he should be next in line. However, the winner of Corey/Jan is likely next for the title shot. Therefore, Volkan should fight Smith next as long as he beats Glover (which he should). Volkan also beat Reyes in my opinion.
I mean, Volkan's close but the winner of Corey/Jan deserves the shot more. In Corey's case it'll be interesting to see Jon take on a wrestler for the first time in a while, especially when that wrestler has a sketchy chin, and if he fights Jan... well, we could be in for a 5 round snoozefest. Honestly, Volkan would be a way more entertaining fight, but Corey and Jan have been fighting at LHW for so long and have had enough success to justify getting their chance at the belt. They won't win, but whatever. Volkan gets the winner.
I think this next fight night match between Anderson and Jan will play a big role in how this all shakes out. I’d hang tight until we see how it happens. If corey flash ko’s Jan on the feet it would be hard to deny how dominant he’s been
Volkan has been improving a lot recently but he needs 2 more solid performances to claim a tilte shot. he vs santos would be a great fight: the hardest hitter in santos vs the iron chin of oezdemir.
Nah fuck this favouritism shit. There's got to be some sort of system. Win enough and earn a shot. Both Jan and Corey have paid their dues. Winner of those two HAS to be next. Thiago Santos and Dom Reyes can fight over the next shot. Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith can also fight over the next shot. Then it comes down to who is more readily available between winners of Maretta/Reyes and Lionheart/No Time. It looks like before long someone will beat Jon Jones. He barely scraped wins in his last 2 fights. Nobody is going to finish him but someone will squeak out a split decision win against him eventually.
The fight would probably be really exciting while it lasts. Volkan is always trying to finish the fight. The hardest way to beat jones is going tit for tat for 25 mins.
You make a good argument, but "boring" isn't a strong enough argument for Anderson to not get the next shot imo should he get past Jan. In all likelihood, however, being boring is realistically something that will prevent him from potentially getting the next shot if he wins in a way that people find boring, so your argument is probably stronger than mine haha
