Sherdog top ten MMA Weekly Fight Matrix Simple question-why is vitor ranked so highly? Do past accomplishments at other weights, legendary status and name recognition matter more than current wins in the division? last and only wins at middleweight- Yoshihiro Akiyama Matt Lindland Terry Martin Obviously there are no official rankings inside the UFC, so rankings "dont matter", but are outside rankings becoming more irrelevant as a general guide due to the string of wacky matchmaking we've seen lately?
It's hard to deny he's still a top tier 185 pounder. Especially coming off of a near sub of JBJ @ 205.
Also, this. It's usually pretty unanimous who the top 5 of each division are. Maybe some people will have fighter X ranked at number 3 and fighter Y ranked number 4 while someone else might have them switched. Usually when I read top 10 lists I'm like HTF did this person make the list?!?
MW is a weak division, no surprise here. Vitor is easily top five though, he just hasn't proved it yet.
I'm surprised he's not higher on the list. Getting the LHW belt by cutting Randy's eye with the lace of his glove was one of the most impressive title wins in all MMA.
and I was wondering y so low...??? He is the second best Middleweight, some matchups will be troublesome for him, but I think a few wins and hopefully after Spider fights Jones and GSP, Vitor gets another cracks at him...
Right, that may be true but rankings arent a hypothetical lists of who can beat who. Its about measuring a fighters wins in a division vs other fighters wins.
He's rolled through everyone except Jones and Silva in the UFC. I consider his fight back and 195 having more impact at MW since that is the division he went down to. He's got a good record at MW.
