Virtue Signaling in Gaming Megathread, v.1

Reading this 'leak' and the responses to it reminds me of this Critical Drinker video, which I highly recommend the entire video but the most interesting part is at 9:55 to the end. Please watch that.

We don't know the legitimacy of that leak, and it could be fraudulent and the faker that wrote it would have very dishonest intentions.

Lets say its fraudulent until its later confirmed to be true.

Just because this Ghost sequel has a 'strong female charactet' lead doesn't mean its 'woke' and a part of some feminist agenda to destroy gaming.

Always be cautious that YOU may be the one being manipulated, that you're being suckered by those feeding your confirmation bias, and by being 'anti-woke' you're just becoming a different kind of woke.

I've praised the Netflix series Arcane constantly over the last three years, and what convinced me to check it out was the overwhelming praise for it. But I wonder if I would have blown it off as 'woke' if it was mentioned some female characters have red and blue hair, and one of them is a butch lesbian persuing a relationship with a straight female character.

And one of the best series of this year was X-Men'97, and alot of the promotional material indicated it was going to be quite woke. It outright said one of the original characters of the original series was now transgender with different pronouns. As it ends up that was all bullshit, mostly, all 'woke' elements were toned down to be mostly muted, and I still consider X-Men'97 to be one of the best series of 2024.

So, is the Ghosts sequel going to be 'woke?' Quite possibly, and maybe not. Haven't seen enough to gauge one way or the other.

So far the biggest indicator it will be is that activist lead actress, but if that's it then its nit a big deal.

X-Men '97 is trash! It's like a soap opera, full of drama, focused on relationships, the female characters are more prominent than the male ones, they also took away their beauty and sensuality, only the action scenes are good.

Media, entertainment, culture, art, pop, geek, and nerd producers are getting smarter, putting their messages in a more subtle way. Many like you don't notice unless it's thrown in the face, sometimes not even that, prefer to fool themselves into thinking that there's no problem at all, so they can live in their happy pink world.

Ok bro.

The issue is these types of messages have been put into entertainment mediums for decades, and as long as they're subtle then they're tollerable.

I can name a dozen movies with messaging I disagree with, but enjoyed the movie because it was entertaining.... because the entertaining the audience was a higher priority than the messaging.

The simple choice you have is to avoid all entertainment because it might have 'woke' messaging, or accept that not every bit of entertainment is being made for you.

By the way, Hollywood and many game developers seem to have received the message that DEI/Woke projects tend to be less profitable or lose their entire investment. So simmer down and realize there's progress.

Did they?

Are they removing the DEI nonsense off their websites and from inside the companies?

Are intimacy coordinators as we know over?

Troll better.
It's not trolling. This is reminds me of "Gamergate" when all the racist and sexists were complaining about diversity in games. They were very upset about it, but really it was a good thing that games got more tolerant. For instance today I saw they were complaining about this-

[MEDIA]

All the right people are upset by this. It's great that games have become more virtuous.

People learn to accept differences and be more tolerant. People feel more included so there is more fun. That is a very positive outcome.
Ideological differences, especially...

Who are the people who feel more included by this?

I don't know whether to laugh cry or gouge out my eyes, wtf is this shit

The sad fact is many games in development are past the point of no return, so there's still going to be woke games coming out for a while.

And there's still the issue of Blackrock demanding DEI in games they finance.
But after so many obviously 'woke' games failing miserably with DEI and Sweet Baby Inc's influence the message has been mostly received that this isn't want gamers want, and it absolutely not what you want the internet narrative to be around its release date.

Star Wars Outlaws
Concord
And Dragon Age Veilguard?... maybe

We'll have to see what the final sales numbers are a month after Veilguard's release.

Recent update on the Amazon/Twitch situation, a letter was sent to both companies from a Congressman last night.

Devin Nash and Dan had a great conversation on this a few days ago:

Twitch did respond today with a half assed new guideline. Another category that Streamers need to label their channel on the backend. Where advertisers on the platform can opt in or out of such categories. So Twitch are just repeating their 'Hot Tub Policy' from a few years ago.
