Keep your weapons at home: Virginia governor plans to ban guns from gun rights rally

Gun rights advocates organizing the event promised a "peaceful day to address our Legislature" in Richmond, but their efforts sparked a much larger, grassroots movement that has drawn interest from gun owners and militias around the country.

Northam said at a news conference that intelligence from law enforcement agencies indicates that out-of-state militias and hate groups fueled by misinformation and conspiracy theories have "malicious plans" for the rally.

"They're not coming to peacefully protest. They are coming to intimidate and cause harm," Northam said.

Northam said he was declaring a state of emergency in Richmond from Friday evening through Tuesday evening. Under the order, the city, state and capitol police will form a unified command, state employees are encouraged to stay home for the already planned Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, and all weapons will be banned in the Capitol Square.

"It makes no sense to ban every other weapon but allow firearms," Northam said. After the emergency expires Tuesday, most firearms would be allowed on the grounds. Virginia is an open-carry state.

So let me get this right. Because someone ran over someone with a car in Charlottesville, you are now banning the legal carry of fire arms?

Hmmmm, that doesn't seem to make much sense.

This idiot is about to use people with guns, to tell people they can't bring their guns they have a constitutional right to own.

He is going to get people killed with this insanity, and no one should support it.

I imagine if you do support greater gun regulation, you do so because you think it will save lives.

Well, this is not it. This is literally getting people killed with your laws.

Banning law abiding citizens from having guns will result in only criminals having guns, bad idea imo.
 
Of course they won't publish details of these existential threats because they have yet to finish making them up!

Threatening violence? Like threatening to use the national guard against citizens who didn't vote for you?

Right to bear arms.
Right to publically assemble.

This is a game of escalation with them trying to pit to of their challengers against each other while playing the victim.

So if they are acting on misinformation and CTs what are they? and what is the "truth"?
 
Maybe he wouldn’t spark anger if he hasn’t gotten a budget to increase jail staff and space after proposing a confiscation round up. AND hadn’t doubled down by hiring 18 people to be an arm of law enforcement to conduct said confiscation.

Should have spent that money on an increase in ER staff. Guessing we will see more deaths, and injuries than arrests.

You can see this disaster coming from 10 miles away.

These people are not going to disarm.
 
This is the same guy who wants babies to be executed, so I wouldn't expect him to have too much concern about endangering other people's lives.

Agreed. Seeing more and more in politics. Not only are the people watching commentary of the news to form their opinions and getting more extreme in their views, the politicians are moving further and further off center to the point of rediculous

It's only going to get worse. We are heading for Europe's current reality, where the old party's die, and a new populist left and right rises.

It maybe under the same party names, as they have so entrenched themselves in our system, but 8 years from now, none of the old guard will be left.

Not even sure if it is sad.

What will be sad is when we throw out the old for the new, and new still serves the lobbying and money.
 
I think you can make a case for either side of whether you should have guns at the gun rally, but there's something here that I think is important:

Saying "They're not coming to peacefully protest. They are coming to intimidate and cause harm," is about as onesided as you can get.

When a citizen says stuff like this they're a presumptuous piece of shit. When a Governor says and acts upon something like this, it's enacted fascism.
 
Murica, is normal. People die from gun violence.
