Video of some light bag work

Such bad form, you should just give up MT! :P

Obviously kidding. You used to be a boxer before MT right? Also, just curious, do you usually not make those breathing noises when striking? I saw you did it a couple times on some kicks, but that was it. I used to never make any noise throwing strikes but starting forcing myself to cause everybody else does lol. Like I know the exhale supposedly helps you get more out of the punch but like are you doing it quietly?

Nice. I like how you use the swinging of the bag to simulate chasing and retreating.

You seem loaded on your front leg a lot. Is there a reason you do that?

cant really comment on the kicking im sure you know more than me in that regard. but overall.....you drop your hands after almost every shot. you stand in front of the bag after you throw. hands in a poor position overall. you can get mad at me and assume im some keyboard warrior or you can see what im saying as truth. doesnt affect me either way.

Thanks man. It make me very happy to hear you think that i was a boxer before. I have never trained pure boxing. I had horrible hands 3-4 years back. So i used alot of time training my hands. I almost forgot my kickingbase when i was training my hands the most.

I breahte out for every strike. But i exhale harder on the kicks, as they are harder strikes.

yeah. i got a very loose guard. i got good defense. but it still not a good reason for hanging them low. it just something that i have gotten away with.

and calm down. why would i call you a keyboard warrior just because of this?

Looks tidy man.
A small criticism it that you look like your reaching with some of your punches, looking good though.

that trip to thailand really loosened you up , i see the lower hands as a sign of comfort and experience not as a sign of bad form , but who cares , we all have different form

looking really good frode ,

Thanks peanut. Yeah i feel great. its amazing what 10 weeks in Thailand can do for you. Even if the last 4 weeks was mostly capoeira and kung fu training.

I feel more relaxed and loose now then ever before.

Yeah man, in the first minute or so of your first vid you definitely seem to be focused on your hands more, like with your footwork and stuff. You also sometimes had what I refer to as that "boxer bounce" lol, and used nice feints (like at 36-40 sec) that just reminded me more of boxing. You're left hook is very distinct, kinda reminds me of Fedor. Actually you're entire punching style kinda reminds me of Fedor, like your rhythm and movement. Maybe it's just the left hook making me think that though lol.

The second vid you seemed to switch to being much more MT oriented, like much more kicks/knees and only using punches to set up the kicks. Did you do that on purpose?

Looking good man, really loose and fast. I can tell that time in Thailand really improved your MT and conditioning.

Things I noticed:
1. Setup the kicks with clean combos instead of just throwing a sloppy hook or nothing at all.

2. You have a bad habit of dropping your opposite hand when throwing kicks leaving you wide open for a counter hook or kick. Try to put the palm of your opposite hand on your cheek every time you kick.

Not trying to sound like a guy with a big ego. But i like to use both hands for swing for power when i kick. Its a muay thai thing that many dont agree on (nak muays included). But it seem to work for me. I have sparred with alot of very good guys. Many who get the better of me all the time in sparring. But one thing i "never" get, is countered because of my low hands during kicking.

I am a good kicker.

For sure. I always start my bagwork with more hands then kick. Then the last round will be almost only kicking. Kicking use much more energy and cardio. So i will do as many kicks as possible, in the later rounds.

I will finish every bag session with 3 sets of 100 knees and 100 push kicks.

That time in Thailand did you good, man! You look very relaxed, in a very good way.

I like your use of the long left hook to simulate coaxing the bag into your right hand/kick. Have you considered throwing that punch with the fist horizontally-oriented, though? That way, even if the opponent doesn't get pushed into your power side, you still catch them with the point of that first knuckle, rather than your fingers.

I'm happy that you're confident in this, because you're right. You have hella good kicks. I like the new av, too. Keep up the good work, Frode!

I'm with you on this. If one of my kicks gets countered it means I made much more serious mistakes than swinging my arms anyway. Also, if I'm gonna use all the extra energy to kick, you better believe I'm gonna get every last bit of power I can into it because I wanna smash whatever I hit hard enough to guarantee that it takes more out of my opponent than it does out of me.

In TKD people are very serious about hand position during kicking (at least in traditional rather than Olympic). From all my time with those people, the only time I've seen someone get counter kicked because their hands were down was when they were partnered against someone who was seriously outclassing them.

And, it can happen occasionally in a fluke of crazy exchanges, but then you have to question if it would have gotten that far if the kickers weren't comfortable.

In any case, I sort of think having a certain guard during each kick is to protect new people or to give people who are flailing something to do with their hands. For you, I don't see how it could matter much either way.
