Hey Guys,

Back again with my favorite sweep that I've been doing since I've been a blue belt. I call it the "Shin Sweep". Its like a sweep that Marcelo does as well...I also do a few different variations of it and it comes on different sometimes depending on the situation and what's given to me.

Here is a video of my hitting it a few times in competition different ways and then me talking about what I do in detail.

This is seriously my highest percentage sweep.

Thanks for watching and have a great Thanksgiving!,

Jason Scully

sick bro yeh i always find trapping the legs the key to sweeping

lol that's one of my favourites as well, especially form butterfly half guard

marcelo did it to aoki, albeit not form the half guard

i like this one and the deep half sweeps (+spiral guard), though we've never named them...

my favourite sweep was done by carlos eduardo rocha against kris mccray...if anyone knows the official name for it, please tell me

instead of augusto ferrari telling me: doo thies and thies, than thies and you have sweep.

absolutely love this sweep. this is the only sweep that i consistently get on better guys. i really like these variations too thanks!

I love the double shin sweep. Can't wait to try the one-shin.

FOOTLOCK? It seems that if he lands half way and posts his hand in the one-shin sweep he is in a prime position for a footlock.

Thoughts?

I am a white belt, this is the stuff I want to know, and I can't wait to use it thanks and nice instruction

I had never thought about hitting this from the leglock guard position. I really like how you're trapping their foot with your thigh by bringing up your own foot like this. I'll have to try it, thanks!

I just tried the sweep in practice.

The problem I had was with the left leg, I cant seem to hook it on his knee. I get it there but when I start pushing it seems to slip off and I lose momentum. Flexibility doesn-t seem to be an issue.

I LOVE the third variation. I hit it all the time against standing opponents when they react to my de la riva back take.

Showed my girlfriend this video a day ago and we went over this one a couple times as she said it would fit nicely into her game..... She went to class last night and early on in a roll found a spot to attempt it....

By the end of the night she had used it or a close variation to sweep a couple whites, a 4 stripe blue and a 4 stripe purple!!!

She is very stoked on this sweep and will be attempting to learn the spiral ride one. She said she has seen very similar sweeps shown at one of her gyms she goes to.

Bottom line is thanks again for taking the time to make these video's and share them. They are helping people!

Great details, I really like this sweep, I'm going to have to try it in practice tonight. I have been using something similar, but I usually use the outside leg in the bend of the knee like you did in the first example, but I don't use both legs. So instead of using the right shin in the bend on the opponents knee and left leg wrapping around to the outside, I just use the left shin and left hand on his right leg and extend my hips. Do you have a reason why you like to switch legs, does it set up other things, or is it a more effective sweep?

Great sweep. Definetly gonna try and drill this. Thanks!

That's really awesome man! Stories like this is the reason why I love doing this and sharing videos...I've had a few people message me about being able to hit moves I've shown then and I have to be honestly it feels really good to help people get better and even though I've never even met them.

Once you get the concept down of these sweeps they are extremely high percentage. I do them so much that it's reflexive and I don't even realize I'm going to do them haha...not sure if you could tell in the comp vids in the beginning.

I do the double knee one a lot and many times is my fist go to sweep but there is a very simple defense to the double knee one and the counter is actually the single inside knee one. So I find myself going for that one in the beginning based off of transition and not even having to worry about dealing with a possible counter to the double knee one.

That's funny you say that. She is a very conceptual person, so when i had her watch it a couple times and then try it on me a few times she "got it".....

Then she said she was rolling found herself in that position and thought "oh that sweep could work here", attempted it and was suprised he fell over!!!! Haha.

Another time she was working bottom half and was in the process working her hips out to get the butterfly for the sweep. As she was doing thins her instructor was yelling at her to "sweep! sweep!" so she just followed thru and hit that sweep again right in front of her instructor! She was stoked cause she is somewhat new to the gym and was happy to get the move off in front of the main man!
