They are likely in trouble for copyright laws by showing movies they don't have the right to show. They say they are selling the video for $20 and buying it back for $19.

But assuming what they do isn't in violation of copyright laws.

There probably is a big market for people who want to edit out nudity, blasphemy, or bad words. I think you can choose which words to edit out.

Would you use this service?

I think it is bullshite. I do not have kids, so I may be out of touch. They are talking about editing out things of Star Wars and other movies like that.

You need to have kids to understand why people would like clean versions of films?

Clean versions of Star Wars?

What are they going to edit out?

This shit's been going on for a long time now. ClearPlay is probably the leader at the moment:

Edited movies was like a cottage industry here in Utah for years and the Mormons were all about it. There was even a documentary made about the whole situation.

When I was a kid my parents would just say "close your eyes kids" when any nudity came on screen when watching movies.

this shit grinds my gears

Why even watch the movie if its cut and edited to shit.

Can't believe there is a market for this

The article I read on this mentioned clearplay

Multiple companies cropped up in the late 1990s and early 2000s to satisfy the demands of people who wanted to watch movies without sex and profanity. Utah companies such as CleanFlicks reedited and sold their own sanitized versions of mainstream movies.

Directors such as Steven Spielberg and Robert Altman decried the services, saying they compromised the artistic integrity of the filmmakers’ work and illegally profited from unauthorized copies. Virtually all those companies were shut down. The lone survivor was ClearPlay, also headquartered in Utah, which still sells DVD and Blu-ray devices that filter movies as they play without making permanent copies.

I obviously agree that it's stupid, but you gotta understand the Mormon mentality. They want to be able to watch these movies but at the same time they want to protect themselves and their families from "filth." So this was their solution.

There was actually a really interesting question posed in the documentary I mentioned: Why will studios not sell the edited-for-TV/airplane versions of these movies to the people who want them?

You see, that was the first attempt to get "clean" versions of popular films. They tried to get the versions that were actually edited by the studios (and sometimes the original director) but the studios refused to sell these versions to the public. That opened up the way for the industry to be created.

I kind of wish they had an edited version of films and tv shows for purchase. I want young ones to see GOT since it's such a great story, but too many boobs.

That would be an interesting challenge, to edit together a "clean" but still effective version of GoT. I'd consider trying it just for the hell of it but I'd probably end up feeling like I betrayed a fellow filmmaker if I did.

You are an honorable man to sacrifice yourself and watch that filth and edit out the filth so others could watch a clean version.

In truth, I would probably just want to watch the portions you edited out. It is a fairly good show but the nudity is what makes it worth watching.

Yeah, even without boobs , too much adult content and themes. Whoever made a cohesive pg-13 version deserves an emmy.

Damn spell check
