According to the Los Angeles Times , junior welterweight Victor Ortiz (28-2-1, 22KOs) will face once-beaten Lamont Peterson (28-1, 14KOs) on December 11 as the HBO televised co-feature to Amir Khan's defense of the WBA title against Marcos Maidana. The doubleheader takes place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The only fighter to beat Peterson is WBO champion Timothy Bradley.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told the paper that Ortiz, if he wins, will get a title shot next. There will be two options presented to Ortiz, which includes the Khan-Maidana winner or the winner of January's unification between Bradley and Devon Alexander.

"He got his confidence back from the scene of the crime, and we believe he'll show in December that he's ready now to fight anyone at 140 pounds," Schaefer said.

Victor Ortiz vs Lamont Peterson Set For December 11 - Boxing News

Great test for both fighters really, DEC 11th is shaping up to be a good night of boxing.

Great fight! Unlike his brother, Lamont gave a brave effort in his last fight.

Isn't Lamont still a Top Rank fighter? If he is then this is the first co-promotion with Golden Boy in some time (?), even if its for a smaller fight.

EDIT

oh well, still a good fight

Peterson (28-1, 14 KOs) has only lost to Bradley. Peterson was a member of promoter Bob Arum's Top Rank stable, but Golden Boy Promotions' Schaefer cautioned the bout does not represent a laying down of swords between the rival promoters. Peterson no longer fights for Top Rank, and is currently being represented by his manager/father figure Barry Hunter

Good fight. Hopefully it comes off. Ortiz seems to have gotten his edge back yet is fighting smart. I see him stopping Peterson in the mid rounds.

kotelnik or peterson are good fights for ortiz. does schaeffer really mean that victor will be able to "choose" his title shot? I'm glad all of these fights are being made though. Cant wait for december.

I preferred the rumored bout with Kotelnik more, but this is still a good fight if it happens.
