He uses a RNC grip on the footlock and picks the guy up with it (if i remember correctly) and did this to all 3 of his opponents. Anyone have any pics of vids of this? I know Braulio did something similar to lovato but he sorta reaped the knee and Victor didn't...thanks for any help

Hillary mentioned in another thread that this is similar to the ankle lock that Gokor does in the Hayastan system and is similar to the one that Cavaca does from 50/50 (which he apparently learned from Roli Delgado who got it through Gokor).

She also mentioned that it puts a toehold-esque pressure on the foot.

Didn't get to see it. I've learned a footlock like this before, but it wa sort of with the grip reversed. So if I'm attacking the leg that's on my left side, normally I would hook it with my left arm and secure it with my right, but in this case I hook it with my right, use a RNC grip, and secure it with my left. Is that what he did? It's really painful, but it doesn't feel like a toehold.

Curious about this, would love to see a video or pics!

After Braulio hit it in ADCC 2009 I studied the hell out of it, so if it's the same attack I use it all the time now. It's basically a toe-hold but you use your body to twist the foot. It's a great counter to Quarter Guard. You don't have to throw the leg over, but you can if you need extra leverage.

Somebody really needs to do a solid instructional on this. I've seen Gokor's explanation of how to do an ankle lock, and his explanation sucks. Some people aren't good at explaining complex things using words.

Reilly's DVD set gives a decent explanation of this, but still not that great.

Also, Victor Estima is an absolute monster, he should be more famed than he is.

Seconded. Lets get some vids up in this.

I suspect it's similar to the footlock that Aoki tapped Kawajiri with, using the RNC hold ... but the interesting thing about that footlock is that he was twisting the opposite way of the regular toe hold, actually going in a reverse heelhook direction.

I'm still not sure what foot lock people are referring to. What position is it hit from? Is it a type of toehold?

Where are the videos?! This thread is worthless without videos!

If I'm thinking of the right kind of footlock, you grab their foor in an ankle lock grip while you're standing and they're playing open guard, stuff their foot in the middle of your chest/stomach while you're hunched over, then pull up on their foot and hip in. It's actually pretty fucking serious.

So, like the beginning of a Half Boston Crab?

Well sort of in that you'd grab it from open guard in the same way, however you wouldn't secure it under your armpit, you'd finish it like you'd finish a sprawl-guillotine, with the foot in the middle of your chest and using a guillotine grip.

Hopefully someone will post a video and it'll be completely different to what I'm thinking of :icon_lol:

so a standing/hanging strait ankle lock then?

or like this? (3:26)

what position is it coming from? from the replies it kinda sounds like a twist ankle lock/reverse toe hold ala kurt angle.

Not like that video. You're using your chest to push down on their foot while lifting up on their achilles with a guillotine grip.

Same here. Based on all these descriptions I'm imagining two different things, both of which I think are wrong.

Rmongler, that's a pretty clear toehold in the video, I don't think that's what we're dealing with.

I understand what you're saying. Are you using a hand to hand guillotine grip, or a RNC type grip (ala Aoki-Kawajiri), or a old school Gracie 2 on 1 footlock grip?

The reason the pressure feels like part toehold because the top of a foot is slanted as the toes get smaller, so as you put pressure it naturally turns the foot a bit in the same direction as a toe hold.

Or I'm completely getting this wrong.
