I just watched it back and the fight wasn't even all that close. The first two rounds were a typical Israel fight. Picking him apart at distance with Vettori just watching. The third round was for Vettori just because of the takedowns but he wasn't able to do anything with them. Keep in mind this was a very green Israel. To think that Vettori will be the one to beat Israel is crazy. Sure, on the judges score cards it was close but if you watch it back it was a clear 2 rounds for Israel.

It wasn't close at all.

On fight night I remember everyone saying that judge was high for scoring it in favour for Vettori but now Izzy is champ and people dislike him, all of a sudden Vettori "wrestlefucked Izzy".

Izzy won the fight very clearly 29-28 for me. Like you said, Vettori probably won the 3rd but did nothing to Izzy to warrant anything close to a 10-8 round.

Stats from the fight below, bare in mind most of Vettoris strikes were in that 3rd.

Sounds to me like vettori won from a fight standpoint

By taking control as the fight went on

......In the last round. When he was already 2 down.

You can make the hypothetical argument that if it went to rounds 4 or 5 in a 5 rounder Vettori could have edged him.

But if you're talking plain facts, Vettori lost the 3 round fight. 2 to 1.

This guys greatest feat is losing, that's the only thing people bring up because other than that, he doesn't have good wins, he isn't impressive.

From a fighting standpoint vettori is the lineal middleweight champ

Vettori is becoming very overrated because people found out about his one fight with Izzy. He is very tough but he isn't as impressive as people are making him out to be

It's optics. It was a small-ish difference in significant strikes landed, and sometimes both judges and fans see the busier fighter as winning by virtue of doing more even if they aren't landing more. I don't think the judges have access to the stats in real time so when it's a difference of a few strikes (like round 1) and one guy was doing more out there, they can pretty easily get it wrong.

Bender would win easier in the rematch just due to the confidence factor.
