Vertical training for Muay Thai?

Well, I have very decent strength for my weight since I have lifted much longer than I've trained technique. I have the Vertical Jump Bible and was wondering if following the routine outlined for people with good strength would be good for me as a Muay Thai fighter (currently training Judo and BJJ right now though, until I go to Thailand in a few months).

I'm not sure if I'd actually benefit from a high vertical, but the training itself trains your speed and ability to output force faster. It might help Muay Thai, what do you think?
 
I dont have that book, Ive never even heard of it. Post the routine and maybe people can help.
 
If it has oly lifting, give it a go. If if doesn't, and claims to help speed and force production, ditch it.
 
It's a reputable book, with easy to process information on complex subjects.
I say go for it.
 
I say it should be good, but if you are training MT also, I would ramp it down a bit because of recovery issues.
 
I read it a while back. There are several different workouts in it and I can't remember them too well, but it seemed overall they were decent workouts without a terrible amount of volume.

It should be ok, because the workouts were created around playing a lot of basketball. Granted basketball <> MT, but you I doubt you'd notice a decrease in your MT.

There's several routines in the book designed for each person's weakness based on some tests. The one I want to do had no Oly lifting and only plyometric drills since I have really high strength numbers and comparatively low on some markers of rate of force production. I can't remember what they were called, one was like the something-stretch reflex which was abnormally low.

So this type of training helps with Muay Thai?

I never hear of anyone doing many plyometric drills. Maybe because agile people get into this sport, rather than ex powerlifters.

Maybe it would help with your flying knees? I don't see any advantage to having a good vertical leap, but athleticism never hurts.
 
Kelly Bagget is a very knowledgeable guy. He really explains how to build speed and explosiveness in simpletons terms. He has a 43 inch vert himself. I think enhanced explosiveness would definitely help your muay thai. Go for it.

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider to be "really high strength numbers?"
