Van Dam does actually have some good dexterity and speed in his kicks even at this age. And it is an under utilised technique in mma. Those lead kicks can be compared to the kicking version of a jab. You don't see fighters kick like that. Most leg and body kicks we see are the standard muay thai style power kicks.

But we are starting to see fighters use more teeps and stuff and you can see the damage it does over the course of a fight. MMA is still in it's infancy. We have yet to see the "best style" when it comes to striking.
