from my understanding, japanese mma was an extension of japanese pro wrestling, which was a work with a few shoot elements here and there. thus, early japanese mma was mostly shoot with a few works.

your referring to pancreas, not valetudo...

That doesn't really describe Pancrase either. Maybe UWF or RINGs of a certain era. A flying armbar and a rolling knee-bar in the same fight just means that they were going for it and knew how to execute dynamic attacks. I'm not sure which fight he was talking about but it sounds great.

Ah, I see. You are referring to Sayama's exhibition. Well, it was an exhibition. I wouldn't call it fake because it was presented as an exhibition, rather than a real bout. Satoru Sayama was the founder and at the time, the head honcho of Shooto and you could say he was showing off. He actually seriously injured a student in one of those exhibitions. Basically, as the senior, he got to hit as hard as he wanted, whereas the student participating in the exhibition with him was limited basically a flow-roll level of intensity.

Although, the exhibition in VTD Japan 94 is pretty different than a lot of his other exhibitions. Pretty competitive, actually. Lets his student get quite a bit in, compared with his normal behavior in these bouts.
