I think she wanted to take initiative with the grappling so she wouldn't have to worry about the Takedowns of Maia, she didn't anticipate that Maia would be that strong, but she was definitely making it a PRIORITY to initiate the grappling first as frustrating as it was to watch.

Whenever it was in the Center you could see she was the better Striker, but I think she wanted to beat Maia to the the grappling exchanges.

I would HARDLY say that was getting exposed, anyone that she doesn't grapple with she out strikes with ease.
