Usyk vs Mike Tyson

Usyk is considered a 'small' heavyweight by today's standards but would still tower of Tyson. Just look at what Holyfield did to Tyson.

I just do not buy that Mike Tyson was much better when he was younger. He simply was fighting bums and over the hill fighters in showcase events. If he could not finish Mitch Green, Bonecrusher Smith and James Tillis, how on earth is he going to finish Usyk? Is he going to out box him? Doubtful. Mike Tyson was like Royce Gracie, and he was good but had all the hype and a system set up to make him look good. Had he fought Holyfield, Lewis or Bowe earlier, the empire of cards likely would have come crashing down before Buster got the chance to do so. In many way Tyson was like AJ: dark skinned, muscle bound, KO specialist hype train, but did not have the skill to put him in that next level stratosphere.

Boxing, like all sports, is improving with age too and Usyk is at the forefront of that progression.
What a terrible post

Some of y'all are mentally impacted I swear. Tyson before Prison was an absolute monster he was a horrible match up for almost every heavyweight in history except Lennox Lewis, the klitchkos, and Tyson Fury. You all act like 3 years in prison doesn't deteriorate someone's skills. Ali after prison wasn't the same fighter either or have y'all forgot about that as well.

Considering what the first guy with actual skills, a plan and balls did to Tyson the first time they met (and second) and considering Usyk also has balls, a plan and is a better technical boxer than Holyfield was. I would lean towards Oleksander winning a UD. Mike always has the power to change the course of the fight though.
So the Tyson who fought Holyfield was the same Tyson who fought Spinks? You know the Tyson who hadn't been to prison for 3 years and skills deteriorated?

What the hell is going on here? Douglas fought like an ATG vs Tyson, the jab, combinations, output, and aggression was a league over what Usyk showed vs a tentative AJ. He struggled with Chisora and you muppets are now talking Prime Tyson? lul!

The guys who went the distance with prime Tyson basically just survived and clinched.

No he doesn't. His speed is not amazing to me. You are acting like he has jaw dropping speed. That would be prime Mike.
Mike has the quicker hands, Usyk has the quicker feet.

the pre rape/jail Tyson with skills not deteriorated lost to buster Douglas

Mike Tyson struggled quite a bit against tall, technical boxers with good reach.

Usyk may seem small compared to today’s heavies but he’d be quite big during Tyson’s time.
Not really

Did you actually watch the fight? Because he knocked Douglas out. Anyone that actually knows how's to count knows that was a long count. And besides that the freaking corner didnt even have a endswell both Tyson and his corner didnt prepare for that fight.

At last someone able to distance himself from the hype around Tyson. Thank you a lot! Tyson was a fantastic boxer but the way he is hyped up and overrated nowadays really is maddening.

The Holmes fight always gets brought up because Holmes did well later on but Holmes took that fight short notice out of retirement and even according to Tyson himself "didnt have time to prepare". King brought him in as a sacrifical lamb to build up Tyson. Spinks was a good win and Ruddock but like you wrote every time he stepped up competition he got beat. I also like his Golota win. Tyson was still in his prime in the 90s only the opposition was a lot better.

I think the defining fight in how to asess is Buster Douglas. There you can identify all the fanboys. King planted all myths after the loss about Tyson not being prepared, only partying, taking Buster light...etc and King even tried to get Douglas DQd but the reality was that Tyson fought just like before and like later vs. Holyfield etc. He looked great at the beginning but the difference now was an opponent who also had skills and would not back down. The result always was the same.

Regarding Usyk Tyson certainly could catch Usyk in the early rounds with his speed and timing. The longer the fight goes the more he looses that fight as he could never deal with this kind of adversity.
If Usyk manages to read him and avoid Tysons offense Mike would have gotten frustrated even earlier.
I see that fight as 50/50.
Thank you and @Gene Tunney for shutting the exaggerated hype for Tyson down, i swear whenever you look that shit up and look what people write on boxing boards, people will tell you that Tyson was amazing but also definitely not some unbeatable monster, yet when you go on sherdog, he gets considered as like this unbeatable demi-god, it's so annoying.

Lol
Even though he was decisioned in his prime by the likes of James Tillis, Mitch Green, James Smith & Tony Tucker. In other words, Usyk, who's arguably one of the best cruiser in boxing history, who's basically the closest thing we've seen (stylistically) to a HW "Lomachenko"..(not identical but a bit similar)

Who's cardio, endurance and workrate are phenomenal and unparalleled in his Weight class

Would easily get crushed in seconds by the very same guy who lost against another cruiser legend (Holyfield), not only that, he'd somehow have less chances than Green, Smith, etc...
Tyson fans on suicide watch after reading this

Preach.

IMO Usyk stops Mike in 5 or 6th...Douglas who wasn't as technical but used his jab efficiently decimated Mike...Mike is headed for Bolivia in this fight...

Right. The idiot in Mike's Conroe filled a rubber glove with cold water and was using it to stop swelling.

But Mike lost to Douglas because Mike's habit of not training caught up with him. He didnt have what it took to finish Douglas that night.

Douglas was ready to die and also boxed beautifully and did put Mike away when he got the chance.

He couldn't stop an old chisora and had a tough decision but he stops prime mike in 5? This place gets dumber by the day. Lewis couldn't even stop a totally shot Mike until round 8.

Lewis was playing it safe...iron Mike was overrated and was fighting cans and has beens....and I'm the dumb one ..
