So I go to a prison for a gym. Its a ghetto community center. They have 2 barbells. I will never bench with the bent barbell, but ill squat with the bent one.

How bad is it to use a bent barbell? For bench and squat.

When I squat I try to make the curve upward so it curves over my back. I hate using it still. Just curious as to how much damage can this cause?

I used a bent barbell to squat with once. It was uncomfortable. I wasn't able to lift for a couple of weeks after because of it. Every time I would think of going to the gym, I would remember being uncomfortable, and couldn't bring myself to go.

its just slightly bent for me, but noticeable if u roll it.

I recommend not trying to roll it when you're squatting.

I hate my cheap ass gym, I just sent a letter to the parks board saying I got injured and all this stuff. I'm sure its some sort of liability thing they have to replace it now. :P

If it's bent then there is an increased chance of it breaking. Also, the plates can slip off if you have bad clips.

Shoot, there was a video on youtube of a guy holding the bar on his back (high weight + bands) and it snaps at the collar. Luckily no one was hurt.

All the bars in my gym are bent.

I just find the best ones.

Make sure the curve is going the right way when you squat and deadlift. If it's not terribly bent, it's not that bad.

Squatting and pulling with a bent bar shouldn't be a big deal unless it's seriously bent, everyone has to do this sometime or another. I wouldn't bench press with it though. You think it's a good idea to support weight over your face/throat/chest with a bar that may roll out of your hands?

Doesn't seem to affect it much, to be honest.

Notice it much, much more with squats, followed by deadlifts and bench press last.

You should consider yourself lucky. Just like faded jeans and pants with holes, people pay good money to buy bars that are already bent. So stop complaining and squat

That's a ;arge curve and you can easily tell which way its bending. Ours is less than that, but you have to find where the bend is and face it up properly. The first time I didnt even know it was bent until it kept trying to roll off my back, my wrists were hurting trying to keep it on.

Theres only 1 other bar in my gym :(
Thats on the bench press.

I notice it on bench, first, then squats then deadlifts. I wouldnt attempt to use it on bench. Saw a guy on you tube where 300+ fell on him. comments said its because his bar was bent so badly.

Why can't you just swap bars with the one that's on the bench?

And I guess that guy fails, since guys I trin with bench 300+ with the same bent bars I do without issue.

I don't even notice it at all 99% of time. When I do notice it, it's so minimal, it doesn't really matter.

I used my uncles horribly bent BB for a year or two.The "U" sorta conformed to my back when squatting and felt very comfortable. It felt awkward in my hands though.

Honestly I don't think using a bent bar is a big deal. Think of the kind equipment the old school guys used to train with. Their stuff wasn't even made for what they were using it for and they still got big and strong. They were literally using car axles to lift with

That's pretty much my whole point.

It's only going to be as big a deal as you make it.

The bar itself is already slippery itself. Its chrome and the knurling is all shaven off almost because its so old.

I probably wouldnt complain so much if it was black oxide or whatever that material is called.

I walked into the gym today and there was a brand new bar waiting there for me. I was like holy shit, they listened to my email. Its a decent bar, better than everything else there. =)
