USA Today - Coach may have doomed Ronda Rousey's fight, career

I'd really like to see Floyd train her if he's for real. Him and his father would greatly improve her lack of defense.

Not saying she will win her next fight but she won't be a punching bag that's for sure.
It doesn't matter who she trains with, she's always going to have shitty stand up. The problem is the belief that she needs a better striking coach when in reality she needs an MMA coach who can teach her to use her judo as effectively as possible.

You can only regress with that goof in your corner

Travis won one fight with Edmund, which is an achievement in itself

edmond showed himself to be a real piece of crap last night. his fighter was getting battered on the feet, and he didn't want the fight stopped? a clear indication of someone who only cares about themselves. and this is the person ronda wanted to keep around her?

An earlier poster described Edmund as "parasitic". Edmund found hist host in Rousey. That's what parasites do, selfishly draining it's host until the end.

People are trying to create a scapegoat for Ronda. When she was on top, she was an "once in a lifetime athlete." Now that she is down, it is the coach who is to blame.

Some people have been critical of his coaching for a very long time. Particularly when some of the women from TUF went to GFC and started doing even worse.

Edmunds biggest faults are sheltering Ronda from hard training and stoking her ego.

It's not just Edmund either. I have a feeling that the world champion boxers that trained with her went easy or didn't speak out because they wanted to be in her entourage or gain fans through Ronda.

Doesn't help when his other fighters are going through a losing streak also.

Or...just maybe people have been shitting on her coach since before she ever lost?

Do you think Edmond is a legitimate striking coach. Yes or no?
I don't think it is a "yes or no" question, because there are so many probable combinations of Edmond's competence as a coach with Ronda's perceived talent.

(1) Edmond is a bad coach. Ronda is a "once in a lifetime athlete" (This is the narrative the media is trying to push)

(2) Edmond is a bad coach. Ronda is an average talent that got blown out of proportion.

(3) Edmond is a good coach. Ronda is an average talent who got blown out of proportion.

(4) Edmond is a good coach. Ronda is a "once in a lifetime athlete"

There many more shades of grey to add to these examples.

Why not both

She was a great athlete who got with a terrible coach who never taught her anything

Why does Ronda look decent when she's practicing with pads and horrible fight time? Does she not spar or what?
She looked like she didn't spar a single fucking round. She looked like nobody had thrown a shot at her since Holm.

Lmao @ whoever wrote that trying to act like they know about boxing. No, a jab wasn't why she got beat.

Enough with the Judo excuse for Ronda. Cody Garbrandt was a wrestler. He's arguably the best BW striker right now.

Let me put this another way. If Ronda had not wasted the last 5 years of her life not learning shit from Edmond and been trained by legit striking coaches, she'd be at least more competitive vs. Holm and AN, if not beating them.

GSP was a Karate guy who trained himself into a wrestling beast.

Jose Aldo is a MT/BJJ guy who developed some of the greatest defensive wrestling ever.

TJ was strictly a wrestler/asshole/snake and he has evolved into one of the most advanced strikers in MMA.

Ronda was a Judoka who should have been focusing on basic striking and wrestling. She could have learned to to use striking to go for takedowns. Too bad she never learned any new tricks. People say it is because her knees were too bad to learn wrestling .... oh well

Good points, she was able to get away with her style for a few years but the other fighters have caught up and she has evolved almost nothing, no game plan at all with Edmond, just hitting the gloves for the most part. If she is going to continue she will need a real camp and training, otherwise this result will become common for her.

Did anyone else see Edmund super upset when Dean stopped the fight?

He looks upset, jumping up and down and slamming his hand, as if he wanted the beat down to keep going!

You can probably catch it in one of the slow-mo angles.

He wanted her KO'd just like we all did!!!

Let me simplify it further. If you had a son that wanted to learn boxing, would you send him to Edmond.

well, you can say that definitely edmond is to blame for her shitty striking, BUT it was ronda who ultimately decided to be coached by him
