I have a lot of family that works in healthcare, the number of staff refusing to take the vaccine is alarming. I'd estimate a good 15% of their nursing staff are waffling on taking the vaccine. One even had their director refuse the first round. And, they weren't refusing to let someone else take it either. Just a fucking waste. Truly sad what all the misinformation has done.

Homeless people don’t go to the doctor, don’t social distance, don’t wear masks, no hygiene, etc. Yet they have even largely unaffected.

Why aren’t homeless people just being found lying dead in alley ways and sidewalks by now?

If covid is spreading like wildfire and it’s so deadly then why are they not dropping like flies? And if it’s due to being outside, then why close down outside gatherings?

You keep repeating this, like a broken record. There's so many things to pick apart.

1) "Dropping like flies" is a strawman. Plain and simple, the data on the mortality rate is there for all to see and it's been discussed a hundred times.

2) The homeless are at higher risk of hospitalization and death. They are not tested as frequently so it's hard to evaluate, but in cases where they have been, they've found varying degrees compared to the general population (1, 2). An early report found that they were: "Twice as likely to be hospitalized, two to four times as likely to require critical care, and two to three times as likely to die than the general population." (3). However that might not be the case. Further, a recent publication on risk calculation showed that being homeless increases your risk of hospitalization from COVID-19 by roughly 40%, and death by roughly 50% (4).

3) Because of all this, a plethora of initiatives have been done in an attempt to prevent the spread in the homeless population and shelters. Including turning hotels into temporary shelters, additional temporary housing and of course shelter regulations and recommendations, as possible (5, 6, 7, 8, 9). It's clearly not enough, but it's not business as usual.

4) Even with an increased risk, there still wouldn't suddenly be countless of homeless people dead in the street. In California there are roughly 151.278 homeless (10). Let's assume that the percentage who has been exposed to the virus by now in the general population is probably ballpark somewhere around 20%. Then let's assume that the homeless in California had a rate of 50%. And, instead of an average mortality rate of 0,7% they had one which was 50% higher, so 1,05%. That would be 794 dead homeless from the beginning of the pandemic to now. Even if they had three times the mortality rate, there would be 1.588 dead. In a state of 40 million people, you wouldn't notice that.
