International US Set to Lose Billions as Foreign Tourists Stay Away

I know several Chinese that no longer plan to visit here. They’re going to Canada or Europe instead now. Whether you like them or not they tend to spend a lot. MAGA probably loves this though since they hate foreigners. Shame that there’s gong to be consequences with less money coming into our country. April 20 could also be martial law. If that happens you can expect the number of people boycotting to increase further.

I would like to know the long term ramifications. I can't image this really hurting smaller states but FIFA is next year so losing those will hurt. Additionally, I would imagine the biggest states that will be hurt by this are Florida, California, New York, Illinois and Nevada.

Good maybe this will cut down on the Chinese birth tourism.

The few that I have met were assholes, lm sure there are plenty of nice ones someplace going somewhere.

It's interesting how you say "whether you like them or not"...and how in modern America we need that distinction. Why would anyone not like them, specifically?

One thing about heriarchical isolationists is they always create an untrusting society. Living 8n constant suspicion of people who did nothing to us, and if we find out that one did, then that's a conviction on all of them. There's a business owner I know here who had a store near the airport, he negotiated with a tour Company to bring busloads of Chinese tourists to his store on specific days at specific times. It's a GNC, he is a Franchisee. They clean out his store, literally spend thousands of dollars. Some bullsh*t like this could be cataclysmic to his business.

Isolationism is both economically and culturally retarded.

I said that because Chinese do have a bit of a reputation for being noisy and acting rude. It was so bad the Chinese government was handing out brochures on how to behave when you go abroad. Not everyone of course but when you have an absurdly large middle class that can now travel for the first time it’s bound to happen. Visit mainland China and you’ll know what I mean. Rushing to sit on the bus first, queue jumping, spitting, etc are all pretty common and this behavior doesn’t magically change when they enter a different country. In thailand the locals get annoyed by them but during Covid they made it easier for Chinese to go there because they contribute an absurd amount of money to their economy.

I don’t understand why people would be against birth tourism. Investing in America can only help make the country better. A lot of people do this because they intend to have their kid get an education over here at some point and then some of those stay and get jobs here.

Agreed,

I’m on the side of thinking it will definitely take a hit to the tourist industry in the states.

But the thing I’m actually waiting to see is the push back from other countries as Americans venture out for their vacations abroad…
There may be isolated incidents. But to be honest I've traveled all over the world and never felt unwelcome in any scenario. Most people realize that governments will do what they do and the people are just regular people.

Have you travel abroad in the last two weeks?

And agreed, it will be in isolation incidents.

But that’s the interesting part of technology as we have learned. It only takes one post of an isolated incident to move the heard.

The anticipation…

Sinister, most people know (and I know you know) but how else can America pass ridiculous laws or create departments unless you feel unsafe? I don't want to isolate a specific group but America has been doing that especially for White Conservatives for decades. I mean being untrusting is how the three strikes law got passed in the 90's. Why America ended up in the War on Iraq and countless other things.

Sounds like a guy who has never been presumed to be a thief in every store he's ever walked into.

I haven't. Just saying in general there aren't issues. Regular people just are usually cool if you are. In this climate we will see I guess. Def get your thought that it only takes a few incidents and peeps here are afraid. Americans tend to be afraid at the smallest things. I've visited cities with machine gunned military on the streets and still haven't had an issue with the people. But it could impact American tourism abroad no doubt. I'm headed to Guyana for a few weeks soon but we already have a good relationship between countries. Will see I guess how it plays out and how much it impacts US travel to other places.

Back in the day I had a Coach from Iceland and 7 of his fighters here. They were super excited to go to Dairy Queen, as they had heard about it. They ended up visiting 3 or 4 different places, Dairy Queen, Baskin Robbins, etc. Hated all of them. "You guys dont have real ice cream here."

My wife and I have an ice cream maker, she made them ice cream with actual heavy cream and real vanilla, which doesnt punch you in the mouth with sweetness to hard. That made them happy.

Back then they bought a ton of stuff and had it shipped back to Iceland, because it was cheaper to buy here and ship it than to pay the import taxes there.
- We had a sherdogger a decade that his signature was askig about a brand of brazilian chocolates. I suspect it's was was Garoto.

I've met some americans here in SC they said american candy bars arent real chocolate, and they all get delighted on how good some of the cheapest brands were.
