International US seen as bigger threat to democracy than Russia or China, global poll finds

I presume that's largely why they think the US is a threat to their democracy. They weren't at all pleased with Trump saying they'd have to pay for the US troops stationed there, and they weren't happy with Obama's handling of the negotiations over Japan and the "comfort women". They are of course always worried the US might press the issue with NK.

The US is a threat do Democracy because we asked for money to keep our troops stationed in a foreign country across the world?

Just the other day a professor in Britain was arrested as a terrorist and sent to a anti terrorist program for this statement that simply states love your neighbor but you can question conflicting ideologies.

Meanwhile in the states, Professors can spout cop hate, conservative vitriol on camera and only leave by choice if they are punished at all.
And? The fuck does that piece of shit country have to do with what I asked?

A threat to S Korea's democracy, because a withdrawal of the US means they would have to substantially militarise which would escalate the conflict with N Korea and possibly involve China, and because even just the threat of having to fund US occupation would politically compromise their leadership even more than they already are (as with being forced to accept Obamas offerings regarding the Japanese settlement).

See how you are grading the US on a curve? Why is it the sole responsibility of the US to protect S. Korea, and if we fail to do so we are suddenly a threat to Democracy? Why isn't Australia or India or Zimbabwe or Russia expected provide protection to S. Korea?

"Remove all the people who voted a way I didn't like from the vote, and redo the vote"
--Americans, commenting on the results of a vote for Biggest Threat To Democracy

No, it’s “look at the results minus the entirely predictable input of 1/6 of the world’s population who live under legitimately authoritarian governments that happen to be hostile adversaries to the US, vying for superpower status.”

Eh? I'm not doing anything. That's the reality of South Korean politics after 60 years of American occupation and a war that was never resolved. They are now dependent on you and that compromises their political independence, and hence democratic security.
Hence the poll results.
Even though Australia has joined in all your daft foreign adventures, we went home afterwards.

China and Russia don't yet have the global power and influence the US has, so they are less likely to have as much impact as the US in civil conflicts, so the US , by virtue of being the 800lbs gorilla, is seen as the biggest threat.

The rest of the world loves shitting on the US but loves all we provide for them. You'd all be speaking Russian and Chinese if we weren't around.

Were would they be without good old right wing death squads?

Wrong. The CCP says China is democratic.
Which Chinese are OK with it? The Tibetans? The Uighurs? The Hong Kongese? ...and do they really have a choice for expressing political dissatisfaction, besides emigrating?
How about the regular Chinese in the provinces who are protesting 500x a day? (No doubt since Xi has consolidated power that is no longer an accurate number)

As Deorum said, they are probably viewed positively by the coastal middle class and elite, but people getting ripped off on land deals in the provinces aren’t happy.

It isn’t just that the minorities aren’t happy with China, even the Han core has its share of grievances.

Well we do support undemocratic regimes like Israel all the time. They have been assaulting Muslims for the least few days but we don’t care. So when China does the same to Muslims in its provinces why do we cry so much?

Its not that unexpected seeing as how the US has overthrown more democracies than china.

As opposed to speaking english?

This is because of Trump and the republicans. The entire world recognizes that modern day republicans hate democracy and want to stop millions from voting.

No its because of a history of overthrowing and undermining democracies in other countries and supporting dictatorships
