Regardless of their race, the asylum seekers we should be indulging are people who will have a higher chance of having skills to support themselves, assimilate, and not commit crimes. It seems like these South Africans fit the bill, so I don't see a problem.

These 54 gaining attention is absolutely disgusting. The “church” not supporting them is disgraceful. Anyone up in arms about this as if it’s a bad thing should be ashamed of themselves.

The asylum pathways suffer such abuse in this country. Migrants take advantage of this country by the millions. 54 people, families — not the able bodied men from Central America, who are under threat of bodily harm and death being given an opportunity here in the USA but because they’re white they are bad?

The other is you don’t seem to believe that some of these refugees are fleeing situations just as bad as people in South Africa are facing. But they are. Worse yet, a lot of them are fleeing situations that were created by the US.

I’m not angry about these 54. I am angry by the right wing comments I see in here. Some people are angry about the 54 which is wrong, but I get it that it’s reactionary to the way the right has been treating immigrants for ages now. I think there is a lot of conflation between being against mass migration and being against vetted refugees in this post.

People illegally coming across the border and then claiming asylum(mainly due to economic reasons) is not the same as our refugee system.

I’m against mass migration — especially from single able bodied men.

Bringing families over who are under threat of death is different than illegally coming over for a better life and claiming asylum to do it.

I'm pretty sure the whole South African white thing is just trolling.

It's a message to brown people that they are hated, while it's inevitable any sane person will take objection to the flagrant and ridiculous hypocrisy. It keeps the culture war bullshit going which these guys love more than their children.

There is a big different between a small number of vetted refugees with skills to contribute and a higher chance of assimilating vs a giant number of unvetted people many of whom are criminals and a drain on resources.

Trump is doing this the right way with these South Africans. This should be the standard, period, regardless of the country or race of people. Analyze and do a background check on a small group of people, figure out if they have the ability to contribute, the ability to assimilate, and if they're at a high risk for committing crimes. Then you can make an informed decision. The old open border policy of just let anyone in and figure it out later, if at all, is and has always been insane

Go back to the OP and reread it. The 100k+ cancelled were vetted refugees. They were also families under the threat of death and escaping violent situations.
